tonbridgebrit
How about this ? The farmers in Thailand should be subsidised by tax money from the Thai government. Now, farmers in Cambodia and Laos MUST not be subsidised by tax money from Thailand. And in the future, we must NOT see a system where the rich countries of ASEAN, (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand) subsidise farmers from the poorer countries of ASEAN. The poorer countries, places like Cambodia and Laos. After all, it doesn't it benefit the richer countries if they subsidise the poorer ones. But subsidising your own people, your own nation, that IS good. Sorry, the above was suppose to be "After all, it doesn't benefit the richer countries if they subsidise the poorer ones". BSJ
There was a government subsidy a few years back to help with the establishment of rubber tree plantations. My memory of the number is foggy, I think it was 1600 or 16.000 per rai and the farmer could claim up to 27 rai (foggy). So on one hand the government should be taking responsibility for giving bad advice to the farmers and encouraging them to plant rubber trees. On the other hand they took the offer without doing 'due diligence' so they have to suck it up as well!
