Has anyone received an ED visa from the Thai Consulate in Hong Kong?

Featured Replies

I have found myself in a bit of a predicament, the paperwork for my ED visa has not come back from the Ministry of Education (5 weeks so far) and my 30 day extension on my tourist visa is up on Tuesday (26th).

My school have advised that the 7 day visa extension I could get in Bangkok may not be enough to guarantee the paper work will be ready and that I should therefore leave Thailand and get another tourist visa.

I have family in Macau and I am a Hong Kong permanent resident, so rather than wasting the time and money flying somewhere for another visa, I thought I would simply go to Macau and stay with family until the ED visa stuff can be mailed to me there, then go to Hong Kong and apply for the ED visa.

But I've heard that HK isn't always willing to issue ED visas.

Does anyone have any recent experience getting an ED visa in HK?

Thanks!

How can you apply for another ED Visa when one is already in progress?

Looks like you are a repeat offender. Good Luck with that.

The paperwork is in progress to get one.

I don't anywhere in his post where he says he already has one.

You can get the 7 days extension that brings you to 2/9. Then, starting 29/8 but even on 2/9 you will be able to receive the "new" 30 days extension on top of that. So, you have alternatives.

Looks like you're a repeat bickerer, because you've been using this sentence often and for no purpose.

I don't think he will be able to get another 30 day extension since he is on one now for a tourist visa entry.

The new extension is for visa exempt entries.

Woops.. sorry.

Not sure about HK, but my mate just got back from Penang where he got one with no questions asked. Maybe worth zipping over from HK for a couple of days to ensure you get it done.

Single entry or multiple entry?

Single entry. You will not get a multiple entry non-ed visa anywhere in the region.

Where did I say I was applying for one with another in progress?

This is the first time I have applied for an ED visa.

Part of the reason for camping out in Macau and then going over to HK to get the visa, is to reduce the cost of doing this whole process.

Flying to Penang and paying for a hotel would just be extra cost that I don't want.

I've booked a flight out but unfortunately the earliest flight I could get was for 06:35 on the 28th (2 days after my visa extension expires)

Should I go to Chaengwattana tomorrow and pay 1900 THB for a 7 day extension or just pay the 1000 THB overstay fee?

I want to avoid any potential issues in future and having a 2 day overstay stamp might look bad.

Advice gratefully accepted.

Thanks!

Single. Don't think you can get M for ED. However, you can go to immigration and get a re-entry for 1000b any time you need to go somewhere.

Totally understand. Just letting you know the option is there if you find HK isn't ED friendly.

My last Non-Imm B (not ED) I had to go to Shanghai. At that time, I was told Perth and Shanghai were the best places to go.

I find it very frustrating that all of the different embassies and consulates make their own rules. Then again, that is a perfect reflection of Thailand.

ED multiple entries is issued in Europe.

Thanks Tokay. The other factor perhaps in my favour in HK is that I'm a permanent HK citizen, so not unusual for me to be applying in HK.
