I'll be traveling from Cambodia to Myanmar and then back to Thailand around November. I'd like to be able to fly to Mandalay Myanmar from Siem Reap Cambodia, but I haven't found a direct flight and would need to do connect two separate Air Asia flights with a layover in Bangkok. If I get a visa exemption stamp for a 10-12 hour layover at the Bangkok airport, will that make it more difficult or impossible for me to get a visa exemption later on in the month for when I actually want to travel in Thailand (after flying back from Myanmar)?

Since you will only be staying for a few hours your first via exempt entry will not affect you getting another one.

Only staying the full 30 days would create a possible problem.

Great. Could it pose any problems for getting a thirty day extension to the exemption?

It will have no effect on getting the 30 day extension or anything else.
