I used to give my labs elk and deer bones after I had finished the butchering. Sometimes I par-boiled about a minute. Never chicken, bird or fish. An elk leg bone lasted a long time. The labs were very appreciative. I was a little leery as I did not want them to acquire a taste for raw meat and slip off to go hunting on their own. In that part of the mountains if dogs were seen out 'hunting' and away from any residence they were shot, if the coyotes or mountain lions didn't get them anyway. If I thought chicken bones would kill some of these Thai mutts around I'd feed them, friging little yappy poddle mutts that never shut up.

My big lovable teddy bear of a bernese mountain dog would literally suck the marrow out of the bone. But he would only eat raw bones. And nibble away at them, and sometimes hide them in my bed.

I'd go to the butcher and get some mince for my tea, and get a f-off big cow bone for the pooch.

He also ate rocks.

Have to fess up and admit we give our mutts chicken bones, they just love KFC leftovers. I swear they can smell we've got a doggie bag before we even turn into the drive.

Which reminds me of the time I embarrassed Mrs.D to the point she almost disowned me.

We had been out shopping with the kids and decided to treat ourselves to ice creams form KFC which we all agree have the best.

It was a bit busy and not all the tables were cleared, so I started to stack up the plates at a corner table to make some room for us to sit down.

Well, there was so much chicken and stuff on those plates that it filled up a whole plate of leftovers. So got one of the plastic bags from the shopping and in front of everybody put all this good leftover chicken into the bag. w00t.gif

The poor Missis early died with embarrassment and she couldn't usher us out of there quick enough. It had taken a long time for her to accept the doggie bag concept but this scraping up other peoples leftovers in a public place was just a step to far for her.

Anyway the dogs enjoyed the doggie bag

Take a break and think about what dogs ate 100 years ago, 1000 years ago, 100,000 years ago. They evolved on raw bones. Giving them cooked bones is wrong!
