PATTAYA: -- On Wednesday another motorbike taxi driver was arrested and accused of extorting money from Motorbike Taxi Drivers.

This time, the group of Banglamung District Officials and Royal Thai Navy Officers visited a taxi rank in Soi 6, Central Pattaya and arrested Khun Wichan aged 40, who is suspected of taking 1,500 Baht per month from other drivers to allow them to work unhindered.

Initially the suspect denied taking the money until evidence was presented to him which seemed to confirm the allegations brought against him.

THB 1,500 is pretty cheap.......some ranks ask THB 80 per day, others go up to THB 8,000 - THB 25,000 one time for the jacket with number or THB 3,000 per month.

Is it "mafia"?.........Thai like to call everything "Mafia" as soon as it is organized.

But if Pattaya City Hall is so concerned about this "Mafia" why not issue licenses (as what they did several years ago by issuing yellow registration plates for taxi's) and special jackets.......so the revenues.........let's say THB 100 per month or THB 1,000 per year will go into a fund for .......... the Mayor?

Anyway..........if City Hall wasn't so scared of the real Mafia dealing with the motorbike-taxi-drivers this would have been arranged by long now.
