Neeranam
My favourite Thai song is Lung Kee Mao by Carabao, for many reasons. The title of the song means"drunkard", which I used to be and sing this song at karaokes. It mentions the rice farmer who goes to Bangkok to find money and dies on a footbridge. I used to meet lots of drunks from Isarn who were missing their home, and after moving to Isarn understand why. Now I do some work in a rehab centre and everyone knows this song. The lyrics are very moving for me, especially the ones "nai yaam ja gin mai keoi tem im, nai yaam ja non, mai keoi tem teun. What's yours, and why? The Dan Sai Kid
I agree, it's hard to pick one song. I love Motorsai Hang - the Morlam song about the teacher with the crap scooter who gets dumped by his girlfriend - to go out with a policeman with a pickup. Another favourite is Bed Mong Chow by Palmy - pity Palmy's looking a bit rough these days.

Sounds like it could be a theme rip off of 'saao motersai' by Charan Manophet, the late illustrious Northern Thai music frontman. Although an upgraded ripoff, as in Charan's song, the guy who gets the girl has a motorcycle, and the guy who gets dumped only has a bicycle. mittheimp
I remember the 'China Dolls' having a hit about 5 years ago - the song started off with lines oh oh oh oh Jep. I think the song took the title 'oh oh oh' or โอ๊ะ โอ๊ะ โอ๊ะ. What a classic!! My wife, on the other hand, thinks it was utter crap and complained everytime she heard it. But thats the beauty of listening to silly songs in a language you are not fluent in - the lyrics are'nt nearly so annoying. and i think Thailand has some excellent pop records - the sound of the language really suits it. However I wouldnt claim the china dolls had sung my favourite Thai song! but undecided on what actually is my favourite!

tatom
Der Nang Der by Alexander Alexander is a farang, not sure of his nationality. This song was popular in Issan a few years back. Evidently, Alexander had his hart broken by an Issan girl and it is reflected in his songs. This song is a happier tune as it is about his search for a new girl. aughie
I quite like the song which opens with a cell phone ring and a women answers, " Helloo? Ai bhoi. E sai nee. Khit hot ja! *laughter* Ja. Ja." I was told it's a karaoke favorite.

I rememer there was one on Holburn Street years ago. It's called the Thai Cottage, and it's at the top-end of Union Street. Good luck if you can find any Thai people there though. I think it is run by Malaysians. If you want to speak to Thais then go to Taste of Siam on King Street - it's a wee Thai supermarket - but you'll be lucky if it's open - the woman is a little lazy... It's just opposite Burning Embers fireplace shop - near where safeway is. There's also a Thai run takeaway at the bottom of crown street - almost at the roundabout - the people there are from Samutprakarn - can't remember the name off the top of my head, but they used to have the Sawadii restaurant. Neerenam, you should listen to Ponsak Songsaen's album,' Khon jon jang klai ban' must be 10 years old now, but still popular. The morlam opening is a spine chiller, one of the songs that you should enjoy is' mao prow mia jom' I'm drunk beacause of my complaining wife', it contains the great line-'ruang mao khoy sao dai' I can give up drinking\ getting drunk. My wife usually snorts when I sing this refrain clutching a glass of Leo but of course you have the right to sing it!
