Thai military top brass officially visits Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, Sept 1 -- Gen Thanasak Patimaprakorn, deputy prime minister, foreign minister and Chief of the Defence Forces leads a delegation to pay an official visit to Cambodia today to discuss cooperation on security, trade and investment, and boost relations.

His delegation includes Chief of Joint Staff Gen Sirichai Distakul, Adm Narong Pipattanasai, education minister and navy chief, ACM Prajin Juntong, transport minister and air force chief, Gen Udomdet Sitabutr, deputy defence minister and deputy army chief, and Sihasak Phuangketkeow, permanent secretary for foreign affairs.

Gen Tea Banh, Cambodian deputy prime minister and defence minister, welcomed the Thai delegation and brought them to inspect a Cambodian guard of honour.

Gen Thanasak and his delegation also met Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen at Cambodia's government house in the afternoon.

The Cambodia visit is part of a bilateral exchange of visits.

The parties discussed promoting security, solutions to Thai-Cambodian border problems, cooperation on labour regulation, trade, investment and economic affairs, and exchange of information to prepare the 10th meeting of the Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee that Cambodia will host.

The official visit is aimed at boosting bilateral relations and it is the first overseas trip of Gen Thanasak after taking office in the cabinet. (MCOT online news)
