Krabi Town

Featured Replies

Hello

I'm coming to Krabi this month from Bangkok. I'm thinking about staying in Krabi Town as its all round cheaper and I want to visit Railay Beach.

Thing is after doing some research I can see that this beach is remote and only accessible by boat. I won't get to Krabi until late morning so I think I'll be looking to catch a boat to Railay in the afternoon.

With it being 'low season' I'm just trying to work out then ins and outs of doing this. Is it easy to get a boat to Railay in the afternoon from Krabi Town and how long does it take?

Secondly I don't want to get 'stranded' there so when is it advisable to leave? Can you get a beer there or is it all a bit limited?

I know its quite a barrage of questions at once just looking for some helpful advice from either a local in the know or perhaps a seasoned traveller :-)

Railey beach is about 45 mins from the pier in Krabi town or about 15 mins from Ao Nang.

I don't know much about the Krabi town crossing but from Ao Nang the long tails run about every 20-30 minutes or as soon as they have 8 customers. The same for the return trip.

Don't be tempted to buy a return ticket as unless you find the same long tail no one else will honour it and the ticket office closes in the mid afternoon.

Thanks Rod. So buy a return ticket when I want to leave Railay, right?

You buy a RT ticket to Railei in the AM. Don't do this one way scenario in the afternoon unless you are ready to pay an exorbitant amount on the way back. This is a longtail scam, "sorry, no more ticket booth boats, now cost is 600thb to get back to Ao Nang".

Go in the AM with RT tickets from booth, get down to the return longtail 4:30ish.

Krabi Town is worth a night stay....plenty places to stay and the night market has great food....slow quiet and laid back atmosphere....I much prefer it to Ao Nang.
