Sukhothai prepares to deal with floods

SUKHOTHAI, 3 September 2014 (NNT) – The lower northern province of Sukhothai is preparing to deal with flooding after heavy rains battered the province's upper area for several days.

The Yom River’s water level near the provincial governor’s residence has reached 6.13 meters high, which is still lower that the critical point of 7.45 meters. Nonetheless, the province has prepared for the possible floods.

According to Prapuet Yopaidboon, the chief of the Meteorological Department in Sukhothai, the Yom River’s water level continues to rise due to large volumes of water as a result of ongoing rains. However, he assured that the province's Irrigation Department would be able to handle the problem through its water drainage systems.

The most worrying area is the Sri Satchanalai District, which is the birth place of the Yom River. The area is susceptible to face flash floods and mudslides.

Mae Nam Yom's birth place is not Sri Sichanalai area. It springs in Phayao province near the lao border, and flows through southern Phayao province and is like the backbone of Phrae province.

I love thai people but geography is definitely not their strong point ...biggrin.png

deal with a problem before it becomes a problem ( of course that takes planning ahead, not a strong point in this part of the world)
