Marriage visa application - passport returned?

Featured Replies

I will be applying for a marriage visa at Udon Thani Immigration later this month but was wondering if anyone can tell me if my passport is held during the application or returned to me the same day that I apply?

I will need my passport to travel after the application and obviously won't be going very far if Immigration hold on to my passport.

Thanks.

You will not get a visa in Udon. You will be applying for an extension of stay based upon marriage.

You will get your passport back after you apply. But you will be given a under consideration stamp with a report back date on it that will be 30 days from the date you apply or form the date your current permit to stay ends. If you need to travel you will need to get a re-entry permit that would be valid up to the report back date.

Once I get the extension, what happens in 1 years time? do I apply for another extension?

Apply again in the last 30 days before expiration.

Yes, the process repeats every year around the same date, with approx the same paperwork and with the same waiting period (30 days) and maybe also the same immigration officer.

You apply for another extension every year. Same paperwork and same 30 day under consideration stamp.
