Done with mirrors

Featured Replies

I've spent the last three years on and off in various areas of Thailand. I've had the fortune of having some very nice Thai ladies chauffeur me around and show me many sites. Of course I've also had the usual taxi and tuk tuk experiences too.

The one thing I've noticed about Thai driving is the lack of checking ones blind spot. I mean it's non existent. Every turn, lane change, backing up is all done with the rear and or side mirrors. They appear to really rely on the reverse sensor beeps.

I understand why there are so many accidents here. Or perhaps I'm shocked there aren't more. The other day I was riding my motorbike down by the beach in Rayong and almost hit a coconut on the road. That's a new one for me...gotta keep your eyes wide open here. People, stray dogs, cars backing our or turning onto the road without looking. And now coconuts to deal with Lol.

Oh and Ban Chang is especially harrowing. Main Suk rd has angle parking. So you have people backing out onto the street. White knuckle driving all the time I guess. Three close calls in half an hour tooling around there. Thank god I found soi 25 to relax. Lol

OP, your post lacks of some consistency.

You start showing off with some very nice Thai Ladies showing you their sites.

Then you go on about the blind spot.

And you end hitting a coconut.

Please don't complicate things so much......you have to understand there are simple minds around, like mine that can't get your gist.

Costas, he has a blind spot. Thai ladies do that to you, you should know. As for coconuts, just bragging!

Perhaps showing off to an old fart like you. For me just a reality. Hey...aren't you gay? ;)

Does this bother you?

Come on Tony...every ride or drive in Thailand has a white knuckle moment.

I'm not even sure they use mirrors...they just seem to ride/drive eyes forward like OK the wheels are headed that way - let's go ...... never mind the fact they just pulled in front of a 2 ton SUV that was going at a constant faster rate of speed.....a couple of days ago one car in the designated out of traffic lane right turn lane at the light - another car next to it in the straight forward lane....the light turns and the car in the far right turn lane goes straight and the car in the sraight lane turns left......my wife just laughs at Thai drivers (and she's Thai)....

Now it's rainy season and their tooling along on their bikes - sometimes with kids front and back - holding up their umbrella with one hand to their ear talking on the phone - while I'm saying to myself - don't drop that phone - don't drop that phone.....

Boggles.....

Better than my ex wife. She not only didn't use the mirrors, she parked by sound (ouch!).
