Police seek information for surrogate twins case

BANGKOK: -- Thai police expect additional information soon on the case of an Australian man charged with sexually abusing Thai-born surrogate twins.

The alleged victims were born to a Thai surrogate mother. "We expect to get information in the next one or two days," Pol Maj-General Apichart Suriboonya said yesterday, in his capacity as head of the National Police Office's Foreign Affairs Division.

Thailand has asked for the information from Australian authorities and an Australia-based Interpol unit, Apichart said.

He believes this case is not linked to Mitsutoki Shigeta, a Japanese man who fathered over a dozen children via surrogate mothers in Thailand.

"We have tried to get information from Shigeta via his lawyer," said Apichart.

It remains unclear why Shigeta, who reportedly is a major business owner, wanted to have so many children.

Shigeta used the services of the All IVF clinic in Bangkok. Clinic owner Dr Pisit Tantiwattanakul has been asked to report in person to Lumpini Police Station but has yet to do so.

Police say that if Pisit keeps postponing his meeting with police via his lawyer, he will face an arrest warrant.

It's ok BIB the Aussie coppers have already charged him and he will go before an Aussie court. Yoi will have to wait until he has done his time in Aust and then apply for extradition to charge him again.

If Thailand wants do something to help then totally ban surrogacy in the country to stop paedophiles cultivating their food.

Good to see the BIB are taking the case involving the doctor seriously giggle.gif

He was given a deadline to report for interview although i'm not sure if it has expired but it's clear he's in no rush to co-operate and the BIB are in no rush to bring him in. It could be incompetence, laziness or for other obvious reasons.

I'm sure the doctor is using all this time wisely and I would suggest a lot of documentary evidence will not be available anymore.

Fool, IVF and other A.R.T. procedures such as surrogacy have helped many fine.parents have families. Do we ban all driving because some drivers are bad, no van the drivers, are all us farangs to be banned from Thailand because some farangs did bad, no ban the bad ones.

What is required, and being done, is to tighten regulations and laws, and then enforce then., just like any other situation.

Er hasnt the horse bolted....w00t.gif

I hope it is the lawyers, doctors and clinics they are looking into who are profiteering from surrogacy often misleading lesser knowledgeable into believing it is all legal.

Totally agree. The priority should be to stop foreigners using Thailand to acquire children in a way that is illegal in their own country. I have a good friend who has two beautiful children by IVF because she and her partner were unable to conceive normally.
