extension of non-immigrant o single entry visa question

Featured Replies

Hello. This is the best forum I have found and I think I have most things figured out except..Alright so I have a non-imm single entry O visa. I also have a re-entry permit that is valid until Nov 1. And Immigration changed my visa date to match that, so that my expiration of the visa if Nov 1, as well. It's all stamped and signed. However, two things I'm confused about.

1. Why does it say single entry on my visa but multiple on my re-entry permit? Is that because they are two separate things and I paid for a multiple entry on my re-entry permit?

2. What is the best way to extend/renew my visa (and re-entry permit-or is that something else, only for leaving the country?)?

I originally got my visa for visiting family, because I traveled here with my mother, who is now working here full time. She has a non-imm B visa. We are both Americans. I know the visa is usually only for visiting Thai family, but she got something signed somewhere somehow. Whatever happened, I am grateful.

I am 25 years old, and I have been applying for a couple of jobs and have set up some volunteer positions in childrens homes, farms, etc., but I have nothing concrete that I could show the immigration department.

Is there any advice you could give me? I'd appreciate any information you'd have! Thank you!

If you only got a single entry visa and then got a re-entry permit it does not add any time. You will have to leave by November 1st. A re-entry permit only allows you leave and re-enter keep the original permitted to stay date.

Non-o visas to visit family is not only for those that have a Thai family.

On what date did you enter the country?

"I have a non-imm single entry O visa."

Not anymore. You used it to enter Thailand. It's done.

From your post it appears that you entered around the first week of August and got your 90-day Permission To Stay, expiring November 1st.

For some reason you purchased a Multiple Re-Entry Permit. This was stamped to expire on November 1st also, to match your Permission To Stay. You can come and go to other countries until midnight on that day.

By then you need to be gone unless you've got grounds for a 1-year extension. Marriage, for example. Otherwise by that date you must leave Thailand, get another visa. A Multiple Entry Non-O would be good. Valid for one year of entries, each for 90 days.

i entered aug 4.

and thank you. would i be able to try to get a non imm multiple entry o visa in any of the countries in asia? or would i have to go back to america since that is my nationality? like could i go to singapore? malaysia? laos?

also what do you mean a non imm o visa is "not only for those that have a Thai family"?

You said "I know the visa is usually only for visiting Thai family...".

The moderator said "Non-o visas to visit family is not only for those that have a Thai family.".

So, moving on, the issue will be: if you go to Vientiane (for example) to get a visa for visiting family, what documentation will you need?

The nearest place where you might get a multiple entry non-o visa is Australia at one of the honorary consulate there.

I don't think you will get a single anywhere nearby either since you don't qualify for an extension as a dependent.

The best you can probably get is a 2 entry tourist visa in Laos.

is australia usually giving in its visas? or why would that be the best place to go? if i went back to america to get it, are they usually pretty lenient in their giving of visas? it seems like a multiple entry non imm o visa would be a very hard thing to acquire.

also if i went in and out of the country before nov 1, would i get a 30 day stamp? would that be called a visa or just a 30 day stamp?

Australia it is not a common destination for getting a visa. I would say that getting a multi-entry non 'O' there is out of question.

You can try contacting an honorary consul in the US to see what are you chances on that.

Otherwise you reasonable choices are the same as for everyone that is not in any special category, that is either ED visa for studying Tai, or repeated tourist visa from nearby countries.

You are 25, you are not a dependent by law and the maximum age for a dependent is 21.

You could apply for a double entry tourist visa. About $90 dollars

You could apply for an education visa. About $1,000 dollars

alright thank you!

one more thing. can i extend my non imm o visa another 30 days at the immigration office so it's good until dec 1 and then it's over or is it normal that since this is a non imm o visa, it runs out when it runs out? so if i make a visa run, i'm applying for a whole new visa, non-imm o, tourist, or otherwise?

As mentioned above there are no extension that apply to except perhaps if you enroll into a school and obtain all the needed paperwork. You will need a new visa.
