Syria crisis: Blast kills leader of Ahrar al-Sham group

RAM HAMDAN: -- Hassan Abboud, the leader of the Syrian Islamist insurgents Ahrar al-Sham has been killed with other top commanders in a bomb blast at a meeting.

Activists say a suicide bomber detonated a vest in the attack in the north-western town of Ram Hamdan.

Ahrar al-Sham is part of the Islamic Front, a coalition of seven Islamist rebel groups.

In February, Ahrar al-Sham blamed the rival Islamic State group for an attack which killed several of its members.

Activist groups say at least 40 people may have died in the attack, although the exact death toll is not clear.

So was he a baddy or not? Says Ahrar al-Sham was a rival to Islamic State (IS). I'm confused. If he was anti IS, then RIP and condolences to his family. If he was one of the IS , then BIH.

If he wasn't a baddy now, he grow up to be one very soon stricken with grandeur delusions

and undeserved self worth who took up him self to fix the world by riding it of "infidels" which

in many case includes other innocent Muslims, albeit of different faction,

Anyway, one down, many more to go....

One down , many more to go indeed!

He was a longbeard black flag waving radical islamist. No clear thinking individual should be shedding a tear for him.

In the war against radical islam "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" does not hold water. This is a lesson which the west has learned the hard way.

That is it, in a nutshell. thumbsup.gif

Yet another example of Islamist extremist factions killing each other over some issue. Ahrar al-Sham were / are aligned to Al Qaeda and for a while one of the most powerful extremist organisations in Syria. They had previously captured Al Raqqah, that I understand is now the main base for IS; maybe thats got something to do with the attack on the leadership such as not submitting to the 'rule' of IS.

Tribe on tribe. Go get em boys.

Aboud was one of the leaders of the Harakat Ahrar ash-Sham Al Islami that was the most powerful force fighting against al-Assad AND later against ISIS. So it would seem to be a favorite for Western support for the fight against both Asaad and ISIS. However, the Harakat Ahrar ash-Sham Al Islami was just as radical as ISIS and it was revealed in January 2014 by Western imprisonment of some senior Harakat Ahrar ash-Sham Al Islami leaders that Aboud had a long-time membership in al-Qaeda. Further complicating the Syrian-Iraq conflict is that the Harakat Ahrar ash-Sham Al Islami and ISIS are both getting Western-friendly Arabian Gulf States finanical support.

So Aboud's death favors Asaad's hold on Syria while the Harakat Ahrar ash-Sham Al Islami fights Syria's enemy the ISIS. In the short-term the West and Iraq lose an ally but in the long-term both can do without any significant Harakat Ahrar ash-Sham Al Islami successes. This whole regional conflict is a political mess with shifting and hidden jihadists loyalties. US President Obama's caution in plunging the US militarily into the middle without a long-term political game plan was well-advised.

The US doesn't have a ;long-term political game plan. It just has strategies. After that, it's play it by ear. Which is how the Middle East got into its present mess.

It's certainly a confusing picture due to the ever-changing, 'who's aligned with who' situation!!! I just think they like killing and are not too worried who they kill!!!

Let them at it,,

Where Islam goes, trouble usually follows.

It’s quite amusing watching all you Islamophobes typically unable to think for yourselves asking each other is this good news or not, are they the bad guys or not? But he’s got an Arabic sounding name..he must be a bad guy.

Well, here you go guys, he was one of the group that the US was thinking of arming to do the dirty work for them on the ground against IS.

“They announced that they want to work with the FSA and announced a fierce war against Isis. Their death is a big loss for the revolution and the war against the Islamic State.”

Looks like it’s 40-0 for IS in the US war on terror.

Now that you know who it is you are supposed to hate once more, you can repaint your banners Death to All Muslims. Death to all terrorists...err err except for Ahrar al-Sham.

So who are you to call me an Islamophobe, you hate filled little troll? I made no mention of Islam in my post. I have, however, watched video of two journalists who had their heads removed on video. I have also seen the news reports of IS slaughtering Yazidis, as well as raping children prior to beheading them. Pardon me if I happen not to like IS(IS), and if they have one less terrorist it is for the better.

Oh, and by the way, Having read your other posts, I am of the opinion it would be nice if you could keep your anti-Semitic opinions to yourself.

There is not so much to say for me, to this case, as a piece of shit is blown to hell and I don't care why.

"som nam na"

Nothing changes they reappear out of nowhere like mushrooms.

Red on red = Gold

laugh.png i like that one.

Al-Quaeda have criticised IS over the kidnappings and beheadings. let them at it. Then take on the weakened victor
