90 day reporting vs. trip out of country on retirement visa

I know that 8-10 years ago, if you visited another country before the 90 days arrived and you had a multiple-entry stamp, a new 90 day period began on your return date. So, if you wanted to take a foreign trip every 3 months, it worked out that you never needed to do the 90 day reporting.

Is this still the case?

Yes. Only when yu stay 90 days in a row, without leaving the country do you need to make a 90 day report.
