Thai student wins £1 million jackpot in UK

Featured Replies

She should be made to pay the million pounds back to the British taxpayer who have paid for her health care through the National health service for years. All for free. She and thousands of Thais in Britain who have been getting one sort of a benefit or another all for free should be made to pay the benefits back if they get " in the money."

What a bunch of miseries.

Personally I'm happy for her, I hope her family don't suck it away in an instant.

I am very happy for her also. Why ohhh why have we so many dickheads on TV, I AM SICK TO THE BACK TEETH OF THESE INBREDS

I wonder what would happen if a farang won a Thai lottery?

He would better not be with his picture on Thaivisa

Be gone in a week when the Family here find out.clap2.gif

For the UK lottery the only rule for winners is that they must be over 16 years of age so anyone of any nationality can be a winner.

...ironic....

...I was told 'foreigners are not entitled to any wins in the Thai Lottery'....

Same as USA then.

And now watch never seen relatives come out of the wood work

And have to be in the UK to purchase the ticket.

A sudden win doesn't usually bring long term happiness.....! What a meagre amount you can win on the Thai lottery.. I wonder just where all that ticket money goes or to whom it goes ?

Oh dear!! I think that'll ruffle a few feathers!facepalm.gif

They pay you cash less tax on winning Hit twice once for 50,000 the other 10,000. Had one hell of a party.

another successful young thai lady would you risk losing £68,000 for £5 or £250,000...

Yep, sadly this UK guy now retired in LOS cannot buy a ticket..............sad.png

They would pay them the money!

5 % Tax for a start

Congratulations and well done on your wonderful win I think her smile says it all, spend wisely and that money could last a life time I hope she doesn’t blow it all in the bookies again, I have noticed in Aberdeen many of the Thai ladies like to spend in the casino of an evening and are a bit gambling mad.

Go girl! Good luck, enjoy and spend wisely.

Too right mate.

Good on her.

I was scrolling down the replies to see if there might be anyone to give her the thumbs up and possibly congratulate her, took a while before anyone did, but the last sentence "I hope her family...." wasn't really neccessary as it it up to her and her family if she gives them any of the winnings, to do whatever they want with the money.

My reply is, concratulations to you Ms. smile.pngsmile.pngclap2.gif

I won the Thai lottery not once but twice. My wives and children from both my marriages here are wonderful!

There seems to be some misunderstanding. If someone posts a message on ThaiVisa that you dont agree with, it does not mean that person is stupid or a <deleted> .It simply means that they have a different opinion to you. It is my opinion that the thousands of Thai people getting all the free handouts in Britain should be made to pay if they become rich. After all it is me a British taxpayer who is supplying them with the handouts.I am not stupid. It is my opinion.

You can buy lottery tickets while overseas here;

thelotter.com

It is a little more expensive and I am not sure you get to be in the raffle along with the lottery or euro millions draw but as they say, you have to be in it to win it.

Good luck to the girl and I hope she is not now totally addicted to gambling. It is a real problem for Asian countries. Lad brooks I hope will give her good advice that she follows.

Good luck to her.

I notice the article said she won it through her bookie.

Not being from UK, I wonder is bookie just a term for a seller of tickets, or does it really mean a bookmaker?

Bookmaker or Bookies = Bookmakers shop...

I wonder what would happen if a farang won a Thai lottery?

Rejoice?

Perhaps the mother will now demand a high "sinsod" since her daughter has become hi-so

She will also share her new fortune with her mother, who still lives in Thailand.

What a surprise...NOT! tongue.pngwai.gif

I think your comment is cynical the reality is that there are many single Mother's in Thailand that receive little or no financial help from the government and their children, when they grow up have the intelligence to realise what their mother provided for them when they were small. In Western countries the State pay for a place to live, food etc. In the UK this is a professional business for some Immigrants who are quite happy to live off the UK benefit system with no shame or intention to work. The UK government is so out of touch with reality it is astonishing. I am British and part of the reason I left was that I was so fed up with a great system being abused and I was paying 40% tax so much going to lazy immigrants but sadly people like you still think you are in the West.

my other half has seen this on FB so no doubt her and the gang will be down to ladbrookes for their daily punt on roulette and now the lottery....what a nightmare!

The Thai "student" I know, win with me every day, well, almost every day....biggrin.png

Is she on a student visa with reporting schedules and so on? Just curios how it works in the UK...

What a bunch of miseries.

Personally I'm happy for her, I hope her family don't suck it away in an instant.

I doubt her family is living in a shack in Nakhon Nowhere waiting for handouts. Considering they sent her overseas to study in Chester, the likelihood is they have more than enough money to live a good life in Thailand. She certainly won't be trawling Thaivisa looking for a sugar daddy sponsor, that's for sure.

But as far as I'm aware you HAVE to be IN the UK to claim the prize money.

I would also do a Google search on "thelotter.com" the results are eye opening!

There would be an "Admin" error and they would be told they must go home or face charges
