Exchange rate for TB65,000 on non-imm-o/retirement visas

Featured Replies

Does anyone KNOW where the IO's obtain the exchange rate to convert the amount on your embassy affidavit of monthly income?

It depends on the officer/office.

Many will use the Siam Commercial Bank or Bangkok Bank rates.

Bangkok Bank and SCB rates are here:

http://www.bangkokbank.com/BangkokBank/WebServices/Rates/Pages/FX_Rates.aspx

http://www.scb.co.th/scb_api/index.jsp

But as Mario wrote: there seems to be no fixed rule.

Some offices seem to look at less favourable cash rate ("Notes").

Always good to have at least a few percent margin or have a buffer deposit on a Thai bank account to fill up with the combination formula.

Thanks. Do you know how up to date are the rates that they use? For example, are the rates now around 32 to USD or more like 30 or less?

Some say they look at a newspaper of the day, so quite up-to-date (yesterday or weekend).

Todays Dollar rate for cash would be 31.98, TT rate would be 32.33 at Bangkok Bank.

Rule of thumb 32.

I KNOW for sure that in Khon Kaen they use this websaite:

http://daytodaydata.net/

They useBangkok Bank, the NOTES rate of exchange, and they use todays rates...

By the way today is exactly what UbonJoe says, 31,83 for the dollar!!

Glegolo

The office that I use goes to the Bangkok Bank website at the time I apply and uses the $50-$100 rate not the TT rate. I've never asked why as I have never been that close to not making it!

It may seem a bit odd, but when I fill out my affidavit at my embassy, I do the conversion myself using xe.com's mid-market rate. in 6 years, the IO has always accepted it without any questions...perhaps because there is a bit of a buffer there.

whistling.gif Being the kind of person who likes to have a small edge on his side I would set my "guesstimate" figure at 30 Baht to a dollar.

If I had enough at that rate to meet the requirements I would feel comfortable that I could qualify easily.

"No worries. mate", as my Aussie friends would say.

Thanks for all of your responses. I have been calculating at 30/USD, and have quite a bit of leeway.

At Amnat Charoen they asked me what the rate was.
