Chaing Mai. Was going for exteniosn non o based on Support of Thai Dependent Visa last week. Was handed a document that ran down a time frame listing for overstay. 1 month was 1 year black listed and then it went up throught the more days overstay going up to 5 years to 10 years to permanent blacklisted.

The document is 100% new and 100% needs to be signed or the application will not be submitted.

Seems ok since I never overstay, but then I always hate to sign anything formal as such because it just makes me cringe. Watch out, this is very real and here to be used against anyone who signs, or as I see it, who doesn't and thinks they will be ok.

You have no option other than to sign it so it seems. Cant see anything to panic about tho ?

It just tells you that you understand the penalties for overstaying.

Yes correct. No option. Panic no, but gives a creepy feeling all the same. Second thought is the what if the overstay gets whittled down to a 3-5 day scennario. The powers that be make their own decisions based on what they want.

Nothing to worry about it is just an acknowledgement of the rules that have not even been approved yet.

Lots of people have signed it already including myself when I did my application last month.

For me not a problem, but some man had missed the boat for his visa as he could not get a slot the other day as he came right smack dab on the last day and later in the morning. Stupidity yes, rock and hard place, yes. He would need to get a temporary on the spot or he would be technically on overstay that next day. My tjhoughts are for the people who oversight over-shot the timing, as here on the forum one can read many of dilemmas posted on a regular basis. My post is just passing on the message. .

Never understand why people leave things like that to the last day!!!!

They want to get every single baht out of the visa/stamp. Well you never know there could be a problem somewhere down the line, is it really worth the hassle of leaving it till the last moment ? most who do will say yes, until something does go wrong.

For annual renewal they can do it up to 30 days before the due date and still get every single baht out of the visa stamp.

Due date Sept 30th 2014

Renewal done Sept 1st 2014

Admitted until Sept 30th 2015

There must have be 10 threads about this in the last mont, all open new.

None of the shocked OPs thought they could have searched before posting the breaking news.

Didn't have to sign anything for my latest extension of stay application in July beyond the usual TM7 & passport copies!

That was due to the fact you didn't need to then, you need to do so now.

From memory, I think I have signed a document a few times over the past years acknowledging the requirement of not overstaying - can't remember the specifics but it didn't seem like a big problem at the time - just don't overstay - easy.
