Shorts for guys and girls. A totally frivolous topic

Why, in Thailand, can girls wear very short tight shorts while guys have to wear those horrible baggy things at least 6 inches below the knee? Are boy's knees considered sexy in this delightfully demure country?

Technically, a good (read traditional) Thai girl shouldn't wear shorts much above the knee.

And men of all nationalities look like total retards in Budgie Smugglers and Speedos.

But it seems that some countries didn't get the memo about Budgie Smugglers and Speedos looking ridiculous - the memo was issued about 1987 I believe. whistling.gif

Well my wife is ultra-conservative and wear shorts that show the knees.....But fat as she is, that isn't very sexy.

I saw a BIG Eastern European haus frau wearing tight jean shorts yesterday in a failed attempt to emulate the little Thai girls. There was something not quite right about it. I suspect she'd brought some size 42" jeans from home and just hacked the legs off.

I've booked counselling sessions already but I'll be a long time in recovery. facepalm.gif

My wife does wear shorts about 1/4 the time - but is careful buying about not getting a short inseam......home is carefree shorts and clothes....outside 1/4 shorts 1/2 long pants (don't know how they do it in this heat) & 1/4 skirts.....

I was never really was a leg watcher until LOS....what a feast.....

Me - I found some 3/4 length pants that I like that have cargo (but not loose like baggies) that do not stovepipe on the legs but have a nice trim fit and feel....I bought 8 or 9 pair to begin with to have different colors and 2 of my favorites....they give me comfort from the heat and feel good.....

I have good sized legs but some of the shorts here are overly big in the legs - some guys look as though they could put both legs down one side.....not a good look....but I can fully understand dressing for comfort.....

Then again walking around and watching - some just don't care.......they dress worse than I do around the house and I don't/won't go anywhere dressed like that.....

One thing I have found about shorts is it's almost impossible to find good cotton gym shorts (to knock around the house) in Thailand.....

I used to be able to get above knee shorts in Thailand, but for the last few years I can only find knee length or longer, usually with those stupid small pockets all over them. Luckily, I found a guy at the market that sells plain shorts without all the sewn on pockets- 99 baht. Excellent.

DDG girls in short shorts- they're why I love Thailand.

My 15yo girl wears the shortest shorts imaginable, but only round the house, take her out and she covers up.

Me, football shorts for running and cycling, and around the house, elsewhere jeans, same as every Thai.

Reminds me of a quote I once read (supposedly said by a woman as well) " When a woman is wearing shorts her charms are enlarged without necessarily being enhanced" biggrin.png

My mates girl wears the short shorts and everyone seems to think she's a bar girl.

Many people think any Thai woman with a farang is a bargirl, nevermind how they dress.

It's not just Thailand. Short for girls/women, longer for boys/men is a worldwide trend now.

Fair enough. And this one probably was in another life.
