Thai embassy London visit for non-imm "O" visa

Featured Replies

The wife and I were at the Thai embassy in London today to apply for a new non imm "O" visa. It was quite busy and we were seated at the front by the counter and saw three different people refused visas allegedly because they had too many in/out stamps from Thailand in their passports. Never seen this happen before, but it looks like they are tightening the screws at the source.

When it was our turn, they looked at my passport, our marriage certificate and the wife's passport, but we're not interested in the bank statement. On the website, they were saying that an income of £1,400 per month needed to be shown for the previous three months, so this surprised me (I had to show it last year). When I asked what had changed, the officer told me that if you are married to a Thai it is no longer necessary. Not for me to argue and I collect the passport tomorrow morning.

Was it a single or multiple entry non 'O' you applied for ?

I applied in early July by post for a single entry non 'O' and only had to show 2 passports ( mine English & wife's Thai ) and a copy of marriage certificate,

no bank statements were required.

No problem visa posted back within 2 days ,excellent service.

It was a multiple entry one year visa. Very quick once we were at the counter.

Interesting, I wonder if there's a new policy in the UK.

It could be a very different story at the consulates which are scattered around the country.

I had the same experience in June. One year multiple 'O', they did not want to see any financial information. Collected the visa the next day and have since returned to Thailand and also crossed the border to Tachilek and returned straight to Thailand with no issue.

I also got this visa in June using forms and instructions from thai London embassy website. I saw nothing about financial info nor did I over last 3 years when doing the same. Just looked now and it mentions bank statements on the site. Never noticed before tbh. Could be new.

It is not new. They have had it on there for some time. They do not ask for it though.
