The impunity and power that people of wealth have in Thailand is a well-known fact. Money is power everywhere in the world, but Thai culture takes that so far that if you're rich enough, i.e. powerful enough, you can do things like publicly murder someone and get away with it. You can even plow a cop down in a Ferrari, killing him while pissed out of your tree and flying on cocaine and still never face any punishment because daddy's money will make it all go away.

If the General is serious about really cleaning up the country, doing things like extraditing the Red Bull cop killer from Singapore, where we were told he was going to remain for a few days because he had a case of the "sniffles", would be a good start. Following that, he could do real investigation into the families like the ones being talked about who run koh Tao. These type of people flaunt their ill-gained wealth because the basic nature of Thai culture has protected them. It's time for serious changes to that aspect of Thai culture.
