Suspect Veggie

Featured Replies

I have always made a basic vegetable soup, and bought all my veg. from Lotus, Tops, etc.

Recently, for no good reason, I bought a few kg. of carrots from the local market.Ihave no idea of the relative or actual costs of either.

This type of veg I store in a cool dry place, for up to two weeks at a time, the worst thing is the carrots can become

a little spongy and potatoes sprout,

However within less than a week the locally bought carrots had turned into a putrid black mess.

The problem I face is, which are the dodgy ones, market or store ?

With the potatoes did you keep them in the dark in a cool place like the fridge veggie draw ? They will sprout in the light....

Same with keeping the carrots .... that being cool in the fridge veggie box ....

I find carrots keep for months... some times I find a few under everything else in the veggie part of the fridge and they are still fine.

I suspect they were too warm....and in light. wink.png

DID you actually READ the post ?

Most likely the carrots were quite old when you bought them at the local market where they are not "stored in a cool dry place" and at night are usually left out and just covered with a tarp.

I would say that if both market and store bought carrots where's stored in the same conditions then the ones that lasted the longest were not the most natural and had probably been sprayed with something to make them last longer, my guess is these were the store bought ones right?
