Duty or no Duty, from China

Recommended Posts

Hi, I would like to buy 2 Industrial woodworking machines from China.

One is a sliding panel saw, big enough to take 8x4 sheets.

The other is a 4 line multi head boring machine.

Can anyone tell me if there is any duty to be paid on these or do they come under the Free Trade Agreement.

I have sourced the same machines here in Thailand, they come from the same factory in China. Thailand price is 700,000ThB

& China price is 300,000ThB, not a lot of difference.

Thanks everyone

how to do:

find the customs tariff number for them.

Go there and check the customs duty. General rate without Form E. The lower one with Form E.

Than it is calculated like this:

(Price of the machine+shipping costs)*customs duty rate= duty

(price of the machine + shipping costs +customs duty)*VAT rate=VAT

Total:

duty+VAT+Some harbor cost + some clearing costs

Form E must be exactly.....

Have the China corporation make up a certificate of origin. With this certificate you pay no import tax. You will have to pay customs anyways for what they obviously do for you. Temporarily storage, clearing and whatever.

If you buy as a company, you must have/obtain an import license. This is a bit of a hassle, so if you can buy on personal account, you don't need this license. Been there, done that.

Try and go for some extra discount like CIF instead of FOB. Logistics handling is mostly done automatic by contacts of the Chinese corporation in China and Bangkok.

Hope this helps.
