The comments re police being unable to solve the crime show farangs do not understand thai

the police have been very successful in ensuring thst no thai person was involved in this crime

further more i can vouch for their efforts in having seen them(10 of them) in my local bar (1km from the crime scene)

testing the drinks and interviewing the 'ladies'

the immigration boat has been on standby all day at the port

The police hold many photo shoots to ensure the international press reeive the right message

the owner of the ac bar is offering 10% vouchers off all drinks (although no one seems to be taking up the offers

The minister is looking looking after the people of surat thani who rely on the income generated by the farangs

how would you like to stand all day with a board saying TAXI and no customer

Taxi drivers have had to put the prices up bacause the farangs are not t coming and the chinese wont pay

7/11 has stopped stocking croissants and other farang type food and are having to sell out of date cakes

And finally i can assure you all that there is no mafia on this island just as there is no mafia in the rest of thailand

oh and i am on the island

We can shake our heads in disbelief, we can mutter to ourselves and amongst ourselves but can anyone honestly say they are in the least bit surprised ? This is the LoS at it's unfeeling, uncaring and money making worst.

It is all that, but I think the word to best sum it up is the society is morbid.

Glad to see that nothing changes in Thailand and wealthy, influential murderers get away with their crimes after a sizeable donation into the right pockets. Now the politicians get a nice tax payer paid trip to an exotic island to wander about and nod their heads at the progress of a farcicle investigation. Good night and thank you for playing.

RIP to the victims.

If you want to make sure this story never dies, all you have to do is open a Twitter account and send tweets all day long. Hundreds of millions of people can be influenced. Many people use Twitter for info. #murder island. #mafia island #they all know #make them pay. The list goes on. Keep this story popping up all though high season. Get creative. Takes five minutes a day.

Come one and all to Kho Tao and join in the hunt for the murderers of the two backpackers expose the cover-up by local police who in their right mind would go to Kho Tao with murderers running loose on the streets, get the perpetrators of this heinous crime locked up for real, and stop all the stupid nonsensical press release’s all this must be terrible distressing reading for the family of the deceased.

Real life game of Cluedo...

But strictly no pointing at any Thai, especially the local "Mr Big".

Have a trip planned for Koh Tao late November,

I'm a bit concerned as they only assured us there will be no murders in high season in December...

What do people think, is November safe?

Nope. Don't for one second think that because it has already happened it won't happen again. In fact, it will likely make the scum that did this think they are untouchable... which they are. As someone mentioned, I will also never be visiting that beautiful little island again... to what? To rub shoulders with and line the pockets of murderous scum?

I'd advise re-booking elsewhere. Do so at your own risk, your life is in their hands. if that doesn't do the trick, trivial though it is in context, the weather will be awful that time of the year.

Boycott this stupid island until the bozos learn diplomacy and tact. It's so tasteless to talk about grand plans when two people have tragically lost their lives and the case is still 'new'.

Paraphrasing Morrissey..."Thailand....so much to answer for".

Not everything in Thailand is negative

Why on earth would anyone in their right mind want to paraphrase Morrissey? Nothing from Morrissey ever needs, or deserves, to be quoted in connection to this case or anything else.

This is reminiscent of something that happened before, some of you may remember.

The MRT had been in operation for not very long, and there was an incident (can't recall if it was a derailment or collision), a few people were hurt. A few days later Thaksin (remember him?) made a statement that it was perfectly safe, and to prove it he rode it himself, full photo op. See, what more proof could you possibly require?

"See this farang? He has been here on Kho Tao three days and still he is not dead yet. Isn't that right, farang?"

Nonsense post of the day?

These mafia types are their because of the tourists they are scum sucking bottom feeders, like hyenas attracted to an easy kill, Anywhere there are tourists you will find these predators. Until they start putting them behind bars they will always be there and become more brazen.

Everyone ...please write to the travel wbsites..Tripadvisor etc...and voice your concerns..spread the word as much as possible....This latest story makes me sick...The Minister is worried about boosting tourist confidence for this island?...are you serious?....Only in Thailand!

Tripadvisor will not publish negative reviews/comments concerning safety on Koh Tao or not for long. They will be removed and/or replaced 6:1 with positive reviews or the topic will be closed. Wonder why? Check it out, but still worth a try.

<deleted> ... Police have no idea ... General Prayuth Chan-ocha says “This has always been a problem ... they think our country is beautiful and safe and they can do whatever they want, wear bikinis wherever they like,” ... and now a "Grand Travel Event".

The height of insensitivity ...

After the murders have been solved. Can't you and the rest of the posters who made essentially the same comment read?
