You might try VASU currency exchange at the corner of Sukhumvit and Suk.soi 7/1, under the Nana BTS station. If they won't change them, nobody will.

hi dave,

i may have to try them, though i suspect theyll want 20% commission

few years ago the banks stopped changing old style 20 pound notes

i changed 400 quid and lost about 20%

must be some bad karma i made to get these problems

thanks for the adress

yes, got them on google, shall give them a ring

hi jp,

ive been living in remote monasteries for years with no opportunity

to meet and make friends with british people

currently 5km from the burmese border 80km past radjbury

i reckon one has to know the person really well before parting

with cash

its important to me because it amounts to half of my entire savings

You had better be quick. From the 1st October 2014, the only place you will be able to change them will be the Bank Of England. At the moment in the UK, they can only be changed at the four big banks, but that ends this week I believe, and they will no longer be legal tender.

The Bank of England will always change them in the future.

It might be possible to do this by post.

Prior to 30th October 2014, you could also try to exchange them (upto 200 pounds) at the Barcleys branch in Bangkok.
