I've just got new NonB visa (3 months) as I just started at a new school. My agent has just told me that I have had 2 teacher licence waivers and it's unlikely I'll get a 3rd....or a work permit...or my visa extended.

So. It's all over for me in Thailand. Going to Cambodia (finally)

Question: Do I need a letter from my present school stating my last day of employment to exit Thailand via a land border like you do if you have a work permit and NonB extension? I still have a valid 3 month NonB....(not extended yet.)

Thanks

The agent should have checked and told you before it got this far. Sorry.

After 2 waivers difficult/impossible to get 3rd waiver (except possibly at same school as second waiver).

Curious if they relaxed the requirements. I know other people want to get a 3rd waiver.

If still interested in teaching in Thailand then you can enroll in school to get education degree.

I heard after being accepted into a education degree program and getting your student ID card then possible to get 3rd waiver.

There are English programs for educatuon degrees offered at night time in Bangkok.

Next semester starts in January. Cost about 250,000 baht for 2 year program.

I could also work at a Uni or Language school...but I'm afraid this is the final straw of many straws over the years. Thailand has reached it's "Use-By" date for me. Other pastures await.

Don't tell me about the "Agent" That's another horror story....but even if I had stayed at my last school and "possibly" have gotten a 3rd waiver...what happens in another 2 years? Nope...not secure enough. Bye Thailand....it was a nice ride. :)

They can replace me with a fresh off the boat inexperienced backpacker and shaft them in 4 or 5 years. w00t.gif

TCT attempt to improve education is resulting in the majority of long-term committed teachers going to other places.

4 out about 40 teachers at my school got a Pgcei or M. ED. The rest are inexperienced teachers that can get waivers for work permits.

TCT feels this newly enforced rule will improve the quality of foreign teachers. (Resulting in mostly inexperienced teachers)

I don't live in Bangkok.

I don't have a quarter of a million Baht.

Bye Thailand.

Good luck. I understand.

I think many current teachers will do (have done) the same after they finished their waivers.

Unless Thailand realizes quickly that requiring education degrees after 4 years will not increase the number of degree qualified teachers but will increase the number of backpacker teachers looking for a visa.

Sad for Thai students

I am hoping with the exodus of teachers unable to get additional waivers will increase demand and salary of degree qualified teachers.

But as long as TCT freely gives backpackers waivers this may not happen.

But if a qualified subject teacher(especially math and science), then probably high demand (low supply)

Ultimately, salaries are determined by people's ability to pay and businesses profit margin

The rest of Sth East Asia does not require an education degree. Just a degree, TEFL and 8 years exp (half in Sth Korea) should see me right. Cambo is just a tempory stepping stone as I must leave in 8 weeks.

Put me down for 250,000 Baht that it won't happen. w00t.gif

....and to think I almost got married last year! Thank God that relationship took a nosedive!

Too bad marriage visa only provides a visa(if have money in the bank).

But people would marry bar girls just for visa and work permit.

Hear rumors of more schools hiring teacher by lying to immigrants and claiming a teacher is a trainer or assistant - would have work permit by providing false information to labor department.

But language schools constantly provide false attendance records to immigration and successful for many years.

Rumor immigration told one school- trainers don't work a full year but train and move on.

Definitely suspicious to be trainer for multiple years.

Businesses with 4 "ghost" employees. Only paying the taxes of the ghost employee.

I chose to follow the completely legal route but I am aware of many people following other parts to stay in the country.

Honest people that want to work legally are suffering
