Popular Post slapout Posted October 1, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 1, 2014 anesthesiogist are trained to test, anticipate and prevent this type of thing. Was the4 clinic closed by health dept. or the owners? We see so much injury and death due to short cuts and someones way of saving a baht just due to those employeed/tasked to inspect safety conditions for workers as well as customers, making no attempt to do their job description. The sad part is no one will accept responsibility, other than via a small monetary payment and will pop up next moth, different location, same disregard for human welfare/life; while promoting their advertised expertise 4

tingtong Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I would like to see what the financial compensation was. I've always wondered how much a life is worth in Thailand . Answer: Very very little. Let's see.... If you are a police officer hit by a tycoon's ferrari...about 1 million thb. If your drunk neighbor shoots you, maybe 50.000 thb. If you in a minibus where that the drug addict driver drives of a bridge and make a runner for it, thai style...zero. 1
webfact Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 Beauty clinic shuts down after client's death during surgerySutinan Kongsin,Poungchompoo PrasertThe NationA BEAUTY clinic in Samut Prakan province has reportedly closed down after one of its clients died on the surgery table recently.BANGKOK: -- Maythayar Mawong, 30, reportedly succumbed to malignant hyperthermia, a rare life-threatening condition that is usually triggered by exposure to certain drugs used for anaesthesia, while undergoing plastic surgery at the clinic last month. The clinic has reportedly offered financial compensation to her family, which has decided not to sue the clinic or doctor involved. However, Maythayar's story broke on social media, spreading quickly and attracting the attention of authorities.Samut Prakan's Public Health chief Dr Assadang Ruay-ajin said yesterday that he had sent officials to inspect the clinic in Muang Samut Prakan district, only to find that it had already closed down. "Its signboard has also been removed," he said.Health Service Support Department's deputy director-general, Tares Krassanairawiwong, said that though nobody had lodged a complaint over Maythayar's death, his agency had the power to investigate suspicious medical facilities."We need to ensure that medical facilities are in line with proper standards and that no further damage is done," he said.According to Tares, most beauty clinics don't have the right facilities, tools or quality staff to conduct major surgery. "Life-saving equipment must be in place," he pointed out.Medical Council deputy secretary-general Samphan Komrit said only one or two malignant hyperthermia cases are reported in Thailand each year, adding that such deaths had been reported at plastic surgery clinics before."We don't sit idle. We are now working on a regulation to protect users of beauty services," he said, adding that he expected the regulation to be implemented soon.Source: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/national/Beauty-clinic-shuts-down-after-clients-death-durin-30244569.html-- The Nation 2014-10-02
masuk Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Malignant Hyperthermia? A very high fever? From Wikipedia: Malignant hyperthermia (MH) or malignant hyperpyrexia[1] is a rare life-threatening condition that is usually triggered by exposure to certain drugs used for general anesthesia, specifically the volatile anesthetic agents and the neuromuscular blocking agent, succinylcholine. In susceptible individuals, these drugs can induce a drastic and uncontrolled increase in skeletal muscle oxidative metabolism, which overwhelms the body's capacity to supply oxygen, remove carbon dioxide, and regulate body temperature, eventually leading to circulatory collapse and death if not treated quickly.
smileydude Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Even if they settle without a lawsuit I hope the Medical Council and Medical Licensing department investigate to see if this was an unforseeable complication or due to negligence. Just because doctors are willing to pay compensation does not exempt them from the responsibility of adhering to standards of practice. 1
