The Hypocrisy of it all

Featured Replies

Just a few minutes ago while taking a walk, I saw two very young teenage boys (couldn't have been more than 13 or 14 years old) sitting down openly in a store drinking a few bottles of chang beer....? I know there is no age limit to buy alcohol but this all seemed so out in the opening and quite frankly a little disturbing....ok, so we know young people are going to drink beer, but the fact that it was just being allowed so out in the open and indiscreetly was just weird...meanwhile the guy down the street gets arrested for growing a few marijuana plants...yes I get that one is legal and the other is not, but man the whole thing just stinks of hypocrisy.....

would you prefer them high on Yaba-c'mon don't tell me you haven't had a sip at this age.

I first drank at 17, first smoked weed at 15....as a youngster I never actually enjoyed the effects of alcohol, partially because of seeing how stupid it made my friends look

Where do you get the idea that it is legal for minors to buy or consume alcohol. It is illegal until the age of 20 as far as I know in Thailand. Have a look on the bottle next time you get a chance and you should see the notice

well apparently it was of no trouble or concern to those who sold it to the kids, I also doubt that anyone else batted an eyelash...so maybe not technically illegal, but nobody enforces the law

there is an age limit in Thailand.

In Europe where I come from it was common that you got introduced to alcohol somewhen 12-14 years old, of course under supervision from the parents.

These people got far less problems with alcohol in their life than kids who were not allowed to drink. Not allowed means drinking secret. Means drinking is very interesting and it shows you are adult.

If Mama and Papa shares their beer at dinner with you, it is something very boring.

Let's see - one is knowingly growing, gardening, cultivating a substance that is outlawed and illegal and subsequently arrested for it.......the other is 2 kids with a bottle of beer.....

Where's the hypocrisy?

Get a Life some off You,if it wasn't illegal would You have bothered to try something at 14 ish.?. Cannabis isn't Cultivated and hard to TAX.Whereas Beer is and revenue can be collected. You pgrahmm are the odd ball,

What? For not advocating it?.....

Raised in the Bay Area SF - didn't miss much - I grew up and don't miss/advocate it now......

But - you like pissing contests AoP......so good luck here on out.....hopefully we'll never cross paths.....

Marijuana is a gateway drug to questioning authority.crazy.gif

Beer is not. burp.gif

Live and let live.

That's why many of us settled in Thailand... to get away from people like you.

I used to be down the pub on the lash with my mates every Saturday night when I was 15. Never went home sober.

Not really hypocrisy, more economics. At least in the US. Alcohol sellers had better PR guys.

My parents gave me wine mixed with water when I was young. 14 or so
