pianoman
I have a very large old Tree in the front yard and would like to find a way to light it up at night... With almost no experience with "Lighting" I figured that I would try purchasing and shining a 150 watt Halogen Flood light from part way up the trunk of the tree pointing up towards the higher branches with all the leaves... Can someone with more knowledge than myself (that means almost anyone) to offer suggestions or advice??? Thank You in advance for any and all help.. sirocco
It rains a lot in Hua Hin, so I take the time to respond. I saw lamps neon kind, hanging on trees, all colors, and it was very nice. I have seen for sale in a shop the bottom of the night market in Hua Hin, who is close to Sao Paulo. Alternatively do as Amphawa for fireflies, put on electric garlands, called "fireflies". bankruatsteve
I use 50W halogen lights in outdoor fixture that is attached to a stake (from Global).
daveAustin
I'd use a 9W, 12V LED shining up the trunk and a series of 3-watters up within the branches. Low energy, safe voltage and LEDs are long-lasting.
Crossy
Agree with daveaustin, low voltage with LEDs is the way to go, not going to be killing anyone when it all gets wet.
bankruatsteve
^no argument. Just to say... my 220v/50W lights have been there for over 3 years through torrential rains and there has been zero deaths even to critters and small animals. I think a few bugs have come to demise when contacting the hot glass - but otherwise that's it. Statistically, I'm pretty sure the chance of a kill from outdoor lights is less than from flying. pianoman
Thank you to all for the input / suggestions... I purchased a 500 Watt Halogen flood light and also a 20 Watt led to experiment with... The 500 Watt was only 300 baht where the 20 Watt led was over 600 baht, but probably worth it based upon how long it should last and also the much lower power consumption...
