I am a US citizen with a NON Immigrant O visa and will be applying for a retirement extension. My question is do I need to get another letter from the consulate regarding my financial status or can I use a copy of the one I filed for the Non O back in July 2014?

In April, I helped a friend in Chiang Mai in the same situation and the Immigration Officer actually made a copy of the Income Letter when she processed the application for the Non-O and told my friend to present the copy when he returned in 60 days to obtain his retirement extension. No need to go to the consulate to pay for another Income Letter. I about fell out of my chair!

In Phuket immigration you need new letter. Check for the travelling consulate dates; they visit Phuket about 4x annually, about same for other major localities. Income letter is one of the services.

Well I got conflicting info on this so I decided to take a trip over to immigration here in Chiang Mai to see what they could tell me. The girl at the information desk checked with the immigration officer and she said the copy is still good enough. I guess the validity date is 6 months on that letter. I'll see for sure when I go in to get the extension in a few weeks.

I've heard of others who were able to use a copy for the non-imm entry stamp change and the original was left with the applicant to use for the extension application ... and of course at some offices you can do both procedures at the same time.

Not sure why people fall out of their chairs or are overcome with sarcasm when Thai people do things to help others. It isn't that rare.
