BANGKOK: -- The cabinet has resolved to ban political office holders from taking the positions of board members at state agencies in its effort to stop and prevent corruption.

The resolution was made during the first joint meeting of the Cabinet and the National Council for Peace and Order

The meeting was chaired by the prime minister and the chief of the NCPO, General Prayut Chan-o-cha.

The cabinet and the military resolved to approve in principle the ban on political office holders to hold advisory positions or member of the board position at state agencies, state enterprises, or public organisations.

An exception was made for the director posts at various organisations that needed to be taken by representatives of the state.

After the meeting, Gen Prayuth also told reporters the meeting sought to foster clarity and progress in collaboration between the government and the NCPO.

He asked all sectors to give the government the time it needs to move the country forward.

The prime minister also asserted martial law will remain in place for now.

Shouldn't this ban be extended to members of the military as well? Since May, all of the state enterprise boards have been stacked with military members.

This ban will ensure that even when/if democracy is returned, the military will maintain control of the state enterprises.

Unfortunately I'll think you'll find this will be the "loophole" for that eventuality;

An exception was made for the director posts at various organizations that needed to be taken by representatives of the state.

and of course, most probably in this case, the ban will not be applied retrospectively - retrospective action is reserved for bad people.
