webfact Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Prison Chief Fears Koh Tao Suspects May Commit SuicideBy Khaosod EnglishPolice press conference about the arrest of the Koh Tao suspects on 7 Oct 2014SURAT THANI — The two Burmese men who were accused of murdering two British tourists in southern Thailand last month are being monitored to prevent possible suicide attempts, says the director of the prison where they are being held."I have instructed other inmates to monitor the two Burmese men. I am afraid they may commit suicide, because they show signs of stress," said Chanin Liangsuwan, chief of Koh Samui District Prison. "They may be feeling guilty for the crime they have done."The two Burmese men, identified as Saw and Win, were arrested last week and accused of killing David Miller, 24, and Hannah Witheridge, 23, on the island of Koh Tao on 15 September. They have been charged with premeditated murder, among other crimes, and could face execution.According to Chanin, the two suspects are being held in a general holding cell with other inmates, but he stressed that wardens are doing their best to keep the suspects under watch.Witthaya Suriyawong, director of the Department of Corrections, said he has instructed officials at Koh Samui Prison to be extremely mindful of the two suspects' safety."They are a special case because they are charged with a serious crime, which carries a high penalty," Witthaya said. "Even the food they eat has to be checked thoroughly to prevent any incident. I also want officials to set up CCTVs and guards to monitor their safety when they sleep."Full story: http://www.khaosodenglish.com/detail.php?newsid=1412859323&typecate=06§ion= -- Khaosod English 2014-10-10 2
Popular Post ClutchClark Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 Oh, this is not going to end well. Due to the high profile nature of this case, these two need to be placed in a single-cell status away from the GP with 24-hour cctv. 34
Popular Post kotsak Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 "Assisted" suicide for sure.. 104
Popular Post Snig27 Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 Preparing the way .... 57
Popular Post arnestockholm Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 Wow the Thai police are announcing there own criminal upfront. That's really a new class of stupidness, even for them! So sad for the two guys ... 41
Popular Post draftvader Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 Is this a threat? 12
Popular Post wackybacky Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 This is now playing out like a predictable 'B movie'. Is this the Thai idea of 'transparency'?........ Meaning 'obvious cover up'. I must be psychic..... I wasn't in the west, but I am here. Must be something in the food. Considering their position, I find it absurd that they are exposed to the rest of the prison population. They should be in 24/7 segregation with a monitoring guard... You can't tell me they are too short staffed when the place is swarming with police. 8
Popular Post englishoak Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 If anything happens to these two whilst in custody itll be murder. If the prison chief is worried then put them in isolation with a guard each, they shouldnt even be in the main prison community atm. 30
Popular Post Bocking Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 Why does this statement worry me so much? Am I being overly cynical? Would a double suicide followed in quick succession by a double cremation, cover a multitude of unrecorded sins? 28
Popular Post borisloosebrain Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 Then take steps to ensure that they are safe from suicide and or ' misfortune' Mr Plod ! Sounds a lot like a planned announcement as a prelude to their planned demise. Their 'sense of guilt' drove them to do it. Case closed. The perfect ending after the polices' 'perfect job'. I may lose my skepticism if and when all suspects ( not just those the cops put forward ) are DNA tested. Clearly the DNA evidence re the Burmese is at present not conclusive (or the prosecutor would not have sent the police report back). 13
Popular Post wackybacky Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 I also find it quite humerous that the prison chief has already found them guilty. "I have instructed other inmates to monitor the two Burmese men. I am afraid they may commit suicide, because they show signs of stress," said Chanin Liangsuwan, chief of Koh Samui District Prison. "They may be feeling guilty for the crime they have done." I mean..... since when was the court case?... did I miss it or something??.. Maybe I was having a cup of tea at the time. I could have sworn the case against them had almost fallen apart last time I looked. 27
Popular Post BritTim Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 Oh, this is not going to end well. Due to the high profile nature of this case, these two need to be placed in a single-cell status away from the GP with 24-hour cctv. IMHO, they are safer with other inmates around, though the danger of a planted assassin cannot be ruled out. In a cell by themselves, it is more probable that they will be found hung and there will be problems with the CCTV tape. 17
Popular Post lildragon Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 Getting their excuses in early eh? Are there no individual cells? Or at least around the clock guards? Oh no what am I thinking, we want them to commit 'suicide' right? Then that the case doesn't have to go to court and it will 'prove' their guilt? They must of done it see! They killed themselves. I am expecting to read this any day now. Thai authorities the world is watching you, we don't believe your charade! 9
Popular Post MJP Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 They must really think the rest of the World is blessed with an IQ in the low double digits. 31
Popular Post BritTim Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 Would a double suicide followed in quick succession by a double cremation, cover a multitude of unrecorded sins? It would make confirmation of DNA samples more difficult. 7
Popular Post englishoak Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 They must really think the rest of the World is blessed with an IQ in the low double digits. No they just have a low IQ benchmark to work off. 9

Popular Post uty6543 Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 Is this a threat? No. Its a promise if they keep saying they were tortured into confessing. 8
Popular Post Somtamnication Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 "I have asked the other inmates to monitor the two burmese". What a laughable and ridiculous statement. 33

Yes.... murdered by two other 'migrant workers' who were then shot dead by the guards. Why do I have a very disturbed feeling in my gut here? 8
Popular Post KhunMoo Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 Yeah - police would like that, problem solved. As much as everyone else, i feel sorry for the families left behind, they will NEVER get the real truth....never. And most of us living here, feel angry because of the very very sloppy investigation, or lack of - no matter the reason. But the worst thing....those two young kids, working hard all day long, far far from home, hopping for a better future, working HARD for peanuts - ending up framed like this This is really a case where, the new "government" could show that they mean business. Arrest the slave dealer(translator), no bail, convict, prison time! Arrest the police for making false work permits, around MOL, no bail, convict, prison time. Check those Puu'Yai's bars and business's - do they pay tax? Vat? Is other things in order...arrests, no bail, convict, prison time! This case is NEVER going to get solved, but send a message, to those bandits on those Islands, that they are NOT "untouchable"...... 21

NongKhaiKid Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Now wouldn't it be incredibly convenient and it would be played up as an obvious sign of guilt ? 1
Popular Post englishoak Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 Three Myanmar witnesses in Koh Tao murder of two British tourists will be brought before the court probably next week to testify in advance before the start of the trial. Pol Maj-Gen Apichart Boonsriroj, commander of Surat Thani provincial police, said today (Thursday) that the three Myanmar migrant workers were under the care of the police and the public prosecutor had been asked to seek the court’s permission to bring the three witnesses to testify in advance. http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/three-myanmar-witnesses-testify-advance-koh-tao-murder-case/ Testify in advance ?? thats a new one on me Anyone get the impression they are trying to rush this though and get something on record before a nasty incident might happen ........i hope not. 7
Popular Post KhunMoo Posted October 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 9, 2014 One thing many people is missing, when they talk about the DNA - who monitored, what DNA samples was taken from where, when, labeled, what? There is no way we will ever get the real truth here....and we all know it....sadly. 6

There is no way we will ever get the real truth here....and we all know it....sadly. I have been saying this for days and getting cremated by TVF members for saying it. All DNA evidence collected from the crime scene must be assumed contaminated. 4
