webfact Posted October 10, 2014 Share Posted October 10, 2014 Thousands flock to ex-Patong Mayor's funeralSaran MitraratPHUKET: -- Traffic on Patong Hill has been heavier than usual since Thursday as thousands of locals flock to attend funeral rites for ex-Patong Mayor Pian Keesin, who died at his home in Patong on Tuesday (Oct 7) aged 71.Local dignitaries including Phuket Vice Governor Somkiet Sangkaosutthirak, Kathu District Chief Sayan Chaichanawong and recently appointed Patong Mayor Chalermluck Kebsup were among the VIPs who have gone to pay their respects at the Keesin family home, where Pian’s body is lying in repose until the cremation ceremony on October 18 at Laem Petch Temple in Patong.Pian Keesin was born in Phuket and married to Mrs Srikum Keesin. He leaves five children: Ms Premrada Keesin; Mr Patawee Keesin; Mr Preechawuth Keesin; Mr Pakrit Keesin; and Mr Pamut Keesin.Pian, although controversial, contributed a lot to Patong’s economy and shaped the tourism industry that exists today. He helped establish the bungalow estate, which wasdeveloped into Patong Bay Garden Resort.
