It's not the same.

He sneezed. It was a JOKE in a very understandable context.

Everyone did understand.

Now if he had thrown a bag of blood on the passengers, or threatened to do that, that would be comparable to the bomb announcement.

In other words the flight attendant believed the 'wing badge' on her uniform made her into a patriot Navy Seal? Happens a lot I hear.... very unprofessional conduct, operation et al. I think if I was on the plane and American I would have grounds to take them to court for mental anguish.

1) Confine the suspected case.

2) De-plane all non-related parties and quarantine (nobody flies)

3) Remove him from the plane and quarantine for more than 21 days

See if he still finds it funny when he is billed for the

- cost of the flight

- Sterilization of the plane

- All other passengers ticket cost and sundry

etc.. etc.. you get the idea.

It would only take it to be done once, it would never happen again.

Oz

Quarantine all passengers and crew/baggage handlers for 21 days. Any or all could have been exposed

Then make him pay.

Deployment by flight crew prior to boarding should be mandatory

Deployment by flight crew prior to boarding should be mandatory

Does this work on Fookwits, Knobheads and ThroBBers also...? If so I'll have a case of those,

Seen a Halfwit like this on an Etihad flight at Abu-Dhabi last year en-rote to BKK, shouting out smart ar$e remarks to the cabin crew and basically being a dick head he soon quieten down when the UAE airport Police cuffed & pulled him off the aircraft first on landing, enjoyed the Im in deep $ hit look on his face as they stuck him in the back of a 4x4 and drove him off to have a chat (too many free drinks on the plane, he became a nuisance)

technically doesn't qualify as he is theoretically still able to reproduce

I'd be interested to know all the details.

They guy is an idiot for sure for making the joke in a way that someone could believe in it - but: didn't he retract his joke?

If he did, the person who reported him to the crew might be even a bigger idiot.

I understand. But check out the reactions of the staff and people on the plane. It is CLEAR they are not really afraid and they KNOW based on this person's attitude that he was just playing around. Unwise of him of course, you could call him a moron, but the reaction was really a waste when there are real things to worry about.

Also considering him a likely Ebola carrier wasn't even logical.

First of all, yes he's a black man but appearance and accent, definitely NOT from Africa. He's totally American.

Secondly, if he had come back from a trip in Africa to Philadelphia infected he would have sought treatment there.

He would not have flown to beach resort in the Dominican Republic!

Thirdly, he sneezed.

It is not passed by sneezes.

Thank-you. He's a moron.

Jing.

I want to ask you how this scenario should be played out:

A guy on a plane says he has a bomb in his underwear, but he is not MidEastern, he doesn't appear to be a Muslim (the same type of ridiculous stereotyping you use in above) and he was smiling when he said it.

By your criteria the incident should just be laughed off by all aboard and not taken seriously.

Do you understand the flaw in your above argument?

The fact is there are safety protocols that are to followed in situations aboard aircraft. It is not up to the flight attendant to perform a risk assessment and give the "all-clear". It is her job to report the incident to the Captain and even he does not bet to dismiss it. There is no room for a cavalier attitude in an emergency event. All such events must be taken seriously and responsibilities followed 100%.

There is no certain "look" for someone infected by Ebola. The passenger could have been on a Humanitarian effort to Liberia with his Chicago Baptist Church the week previous. As a passenger, or as an armchair TV authority, we simply do not know.

Based on the video provided by the esteemed TV contributor, Chicog, the crew that boarded need to step up their game considerably.

Oh, and thirdly, ofcourse the Ebola virus can be passed by sneezes. PRIMARY HAZARDS: Accidental parenteral inoculation, respiratory exposure to infectious aerosols and droplets, and/or direct contact with broken skin or mucous membranes

Next step: 4 weeks quarantine for sneezing in public?

Next step: 4 weeks quarantine for sneezing in public?

...if you also announce for everyone to hear that you have Ebola, I'd say yes (maybe not 4 weeks worth, but...).

This may be news to you, but Africa is rather large and has people of many different skin colours. Sometimes US citizens travel there.

Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut, especially when dealing with bureaucratic Flight Service Attendants. Lesson learned, the hard way, as usual whistling.gif

Of course, it can be spread by sneezes. NOW, they tell you. http://www.dallasnews.com/news/metro/20141012-research-doesnt-rule-out-transmission-by-floating-droplets.ece

Worse, it's not just a matter of inhaling the liquid droplets from an infected person's sneezes or coughs. Contact with any moist membranes, such as your eyes, or maybe an insect bite or other open wound, will do it.

'Saw a video recently about the "aerosolization" that takes place when you flush a toilet. You can't see it of course, but microdroplets from the toilet water being flushed fly out of the toilet and all over the place. I would imagine pretty much the same is true of a urinal. And even an anti-viral mask wouldn't protect you, because it doesn't cover your eyes. And THEN I suppose there's the matter of how you go about eventually removing and disposing of the mask..

If someone who's progressed to the symptomatic stage of the disease somehow makes it onto an airplane, or really any crowded public place, 'seems to me transmission of the disease is almost inevitable.

Sure hope there's a vaccine coming. But I suspect it'll be too late to help a lot of people.

My God! Listen to yourselves! All these bloodthirsty comments over a clumsy joke!

What is happening to our lives?

BTW, once I also cracked a joke going through checkpoint at the airport.

I said "I carry my bomb in my head". Full body search took place, including the anus.

More humour is what we all desperately need.

You think Ebola is a joke?!

10592959_709650235818027_265841741444564

2nd victim arrives

So, they moved the SECOND infected hospital worker via jet to the CDC...

Funny.. .look at one of the guys moving her..

ZERO protective gear.

This should be illegal... moving Ebola patients without wearing any protection.

No one is "immune" to Ebola.

Either Ebola is real, and its a threat... or its fake, and the protections are a farce.

NO!... But I think people without any sense of humor are worse than a joke...

WE overpopulate the Earth! WE threaten Mother Nature. Mother Nature takes measures. A-Bombs, H-Bombs, ISIS, Ebola, Aliens... what's next?

Best put your tin-foil hat back on and go back in the bunker then.
