Bali remembers terror attack as IS threat looms

JAKARTA: -- The 12th anniversary of the first Bali bombing, which killed 202 people and injured more than 200 in two nightclubs on Oct 12, 2002, was marked with caution over the potentially spreading influence of the Islamic State, an extremist group, in Indonesia, reported The Jakarta Globe.

Agus Bambang Priyanto, an Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) official known for his role in coordinating the evacuation of victims from the double explosion 12 years ago, called on the government to step up deradicalization programmes at home to instill the more tolerant and peaceful tenets of Islam among Indonesia’s radicals.

Such programmes need to be adopted hand in hand with security measures, in order to curb the spread of IS’s influence and its extreme teachings in the pluralist archipelago, Agus said in Denpasar on Sunday, referring to the jihadist group by its previously name.

Agus also urged Indonesian authorities to tighten passport screening, especially for Indonesians seeking to travel to countries where they may become vulnerable to IS recruitment — the most obvious being Iraq and Syria.

“Immigration officers should be more careful in issuing passports,” he said at a commemoration of the 2002 bombings, which was held at a monument erected as a memorial site for the tragedy in Legian, Kuta, Bali.

Bali governor Made Mangku Pastika led Sunday’s ceremony to commemorate the anniversary of Bali bombing, which took place in Legian on Oct. 12, 2002, at two nightclubs popular among foreign tourists at the time.

No one is really safe...anywhere in the world...as long as these Islamic dogs exist...

The hypocrisy is astounding...forcing young underage women to be their sexual play things...while decrying the corruption of the West...

Killing them outright would be too kind...
