Assisted living at Dok Kaew Gardens at McKean

Featured Replies

'Care Resort' is the place out at Mae Rim I can say it is a well run resort and 'Medical' retirement facility.

I have a 96 year old friend who has lived there for most of this year and I visit most weeks.

He is basically happy with the service and facilities and I know he receives good care and attention from the nurses and domestic staff their many of whom I have met and enjoyed a laugh with.

More expensive then  Dok Kaew Gardens and out of the way in very nice surroundings.

Have a look at Vivo Bene,

more like resort living than depressing old people's home.  Not cheap.  But build based on swiss standards.  Well worth considering.

Hubby and I have been paying every month for long-term care insurance ever since we were in our twenties.  Sadly, we never could have kids, although after living among old folks in Chiang Mai, maybe that's a blessing.  Anyway, after nearly forty years of paying into a very reputable plan, our U.S. based financial adviser -- a real financial adviser, someone we pay an annual fee and not someone we "met" over the phone trying to sell us a specific investment vehicle, tells us we made a wise decision in purchasing long-term care insurance while we were still very young and continuing to maintain the policy (with a monthly payment that is peanuts, but I suppose you could overlook and let lapse).

Anyway, I wish Vivo Bene all the success possible, because their fees are well below the upper limit of our long-term care insurances's policies.  I look forward to the day when one of their physicians can tick off the boxes on the forms of my long-term care insurance provider and attestsI can no longer handle a significant number of the requirements of daily living and must be in their care.  At that point, I can give up the rigors of posting on ThaiVisa, handling CEC meetings and cleaning out cat boxes.  (It's nice that they serve wine to their residents -- a real plus.)

this links to someone named marc's email , to send him an email, might be nice to state that  in the post imho,  bit pejorative to use the term 'old folks home' but up to you  of course

their website looks to be running at 56k baud

Anybody know what the current cost for Dok Kaew is?  I haven't been able to find it online.

I was checking a year or so ago for a friend and it was around 34k for low level care and around 10k more for high level care.  The difference being whether you can wash and dress yourself.  Why not go in and ask.  Over the little entrance Bridge and turn left.

Do these rates include meals?  The price quoted at the assisted living centers in Chiang Mai usually include three meals/day, although Vivo Bene has a two plans, one with full board and the other with "half board" whatever that is.  I guess that's if you want to fix your own light breakfast.

Absolutely.  I feel the greenery with footpaths is a big attraction for dok kaew. Walking in a tranquil setting is good for body and mind.
It's mostly concrete near condos and apartments.

Nancy L. mentioned this place on another thread. I've visited their website but I can't find any pricing information. I'd rather not call them since I am years away from needing this care, but as Nancy L. suggests, we all need to plan ahead.

Does anyone have any idea what the various levels of service cost per month/year?

I visited a friend In  there every werk for 4 years but havnt been In  there for a year but I dont think they will have changed much.

High level care where you are not able to wash and dress yourself is about 45000 a month.

Low level care where you can wash and dress yourself is about 34000 a month.

If you need full care in their hospital that is about 60000 a month.  this will depend on what medicines etc that you may need.  if you need to go to a front line hospital for xrays etc then their own ambulance will take you.

These charges include Thai/Western meals 3 times a day with nothing more to pay for power/water/laundry.

Physio is available at the hospital as an optional extra.

They have built a new block for those wanting the security of help being near by with greater freedom.

If you need more information go in the main  gate turn left and keep going until you come to the accommodation wings on the right. the office is on the left. You will probably meet with Holly or Heather.

I know it's an old post but it's always useful for people to know the facility exists and it is on 118 acres of gardens!
