PHUKET: -- The Phuket Marine Office has ordered all marine vessels at the Chalong Bay Marina to relocate and steer clear of the marina beyond a radius of 200 metres, due to construction.

The Phuket News understands that the order could extend for at least a year, or more.

"Starting from today (October 15), all boats will not be allowed to moor within a 200 meter radius ofChalong Bay Marina,” Phuket Marine Office Director Phuripat Teerakulpisut told the Phuket News.

However, he said that boats will still be permitted to enter the marina temporarily to use its one stop service centre.

Stay tuned for further updates, and for full coverage, grab a copy of The Phuket News, on stands Friday (October 17)

Payback for the work permit fiasco?

Since none of the diveboats are moored in the marina, I very much doubt that.

And you really think the marine office would deliver a payback because of something that happened to Chalong police?

If this is true it might give the environment a year to recover from all the pollution - especially all the speedboats. I wonder if those are going to be stopped? I'll phone a couple of friends who live nearby and see if they can see any difference.

Where is the marina in relation to the pier? The photo in the article doesn't really show much.

Good question - I assume they are talking about the berthing pontoons to the right side of the main pier just below that new 'one stop' marina complex.
