Hi all,

new to this forum and to Thailand.

I moved here earlier this year to marry my lovely Thai bride. I recently went to their home in Northern Thailand and tried desperately to make a good impression but it did not seem to work. Basically they seem to think there is something wrong with me.

I watched a lot of videos about Thais and their culture before meeting the parents, one of the things I noticed was when you want to give gifts to important people here it appears to be required that you lie down and sort of crawl towards them, then when giving the gift you have to make a sort of sleight of hand gesture.

Not easy I must admit but I practiced for hours and got it to what I thought was pretty identical to what I saw on TV.

My wife said I was pretty much OK but my father in law just laughed and later refused to speak to me.

I think I may have made a mistake and maybe offended him.

I have to be truthful I was very confused about the Thai Way, and where to put my hands. just so confusing to a western guy.

I only want to make a good impression so I thought I would ask here as I do not seem to have got off to a good start. (My wife even told me off for Waying the lady who wayed me in Tesco, is this impolite?)

Thank you
