Hi all,

I bought a new Vios in December last year and the 1 year free insurance is about to expire. Toyota sent me a renewal and it's 20,337 baht, which seems expensive. The insurance is with Viriyah.

I looked at www.gluaygluay.com and found the attached quotes.

Does anyone have any feedback or experience with any of these companies? Particularly in Chiang Rai.

The last one (Thai Paiboon) seems attractive as they are covering 700,000 instead of 480,000 baht, for only 1000 baht more premium. But, I know nothing about this company.

Thanks,

Rich

First - understand that the renewal from Toyota will always be inflated - usually about 7-10% (their "expanded" commission for people who actually do renew with THEIR offer).

If you go to a local broker (literally hundreds in CR), get their quotes for Viriyah and for Syn Mun Kong - our choice). We paid (year 2) 18,900, down to 17,200 for year 3.

The broker's price for exactly the same insurance from exactly the same companies will be much lower that the Toyota quote and even lower that the quopte would be from the company (directly) itself. We are out of town a ways so our broker is probably not too useful for you, but you van PM me if you want their details.

Every time I've renewed my insurance with Viriyah I ask them if they can reduce the price and every time I get an additional couple of thousand baht or more off the quoted price.

I did a price analysis a few years ago regarding insurance I got from the dealer vs. a broker. The price wasn't that much, and the Honda dealer took care of all the extra paperwork and fees.

What I did find interesting were the different policies. I think mine only covers 75% of the value of the car. The ones covering 100% were quite a bit more.

OP: I'd go to a broker like AA. They speak English and can explain the differences. Worth a shot. I get my house insurance through them. Had a claim last year and it was handled very professionally.

We got a discount without asking, the guy from Isuzu who did their insurance left the company and took their customer list and started his own agency. laugh.png

He rang us with a good deal when our original insurance expired so it shows that it can be done cheaper.

Hope he is sending the premiums to the company as he has already shown he is not the most honest person by taking his previous comany's customer list

We are talking the insurance business here.

Common practice world wide in a few industries, leave your company, start your own, take your customers.

Just took out a policy with directasia.com and would recommend these guys over gluaygluay.com

Slightly cheaper quote but much more comprehensive cover in terms of baht amount covered and services offered if and accident occurs.

Customer service rep spoke excellent English and was very professional.

Thanks for all of the info from everyone.

I ended up going with AA Insurance. Good communication via email with numerous quotes and scenarios ran for me. Nice and easy to deal with.

Give Directasia.com a shot, I found them very very helpful although I've never had to claim. Except that between buying the policy and expiry of my 1st year insurance I had an accident but Direct Asia told me they won't increase my premium..

Same here, and they seem a decent company, with offices all over Thailand,

helpful if you do any traveling, had a couple of claims with them ,no problem.

You can go cheaper, but will they be there if you really need them ,Banks,

Insurance Co,and Lawyers I don't trust any off them, from my experience,

they can use the fine print to their advantage anytime they want.
