I was talking to a friend and was told in some malls you actually buy the spot and pay a condo fee every month .

And you can sell it if one wanted to same as other realistate

depends on the mall. And it's not a freehold buy anyway.... in the JJ Union Mall for example, they are something like 20 year leases.... those 'buyers' for the most part break those up into smaller stalls and rent those out. In most Central branches, it's an old school month to month rent.
