Hey guys,

I had a read about here on this but can't find the exact info I need.

I am a Australian and have a Thai wife and a son together that has a thai and Australian passport. Our marriage is recognised in Thai and Australia.

So first 14 months I lived in BKK on a student visa. I got some help here and I did a run out of Thailand and got a 90 day O-visa with no problems based on having a wife and son here.

Next move was I was going to put 400 000 baht in my Thai bank account as soon as I got into Thailand again with my 90 visa and after the 60 days apply for 1 year marriage visa.

My drama is I have all my cash here in Australian dollars at the moment I bought in person on my last trip to Australia. I like to do this and exchange when the dollar is up locally to get better rates than the banks give transferring.

So I got back to Thailand late September and the Australian dollars dropped. I have been waiting and hopping it would raise hahaha but it has not and I am a month and a half into my 90 days. So even if I change 400 000baht now it wont be in the bank account for 60 days like needed.

So what options do I have?

I expire on Mid December on the visa.

So could I go back out of Thailand then and apply for another 90day o visa and if so would they be ok doing it again?

Is there a extension I can get to give me 30 days more on top of my current visa so I have time to put cash in the bank and let it sit there?

Thanks for your time reading all this much appreciated

:-)

You get a 60 days extension with your wife's ID, house registration copied and signed, marriage certificate at immigration, fee is Bt 1,900. No financial proof is needed. She should be present.

Then you will need a new non-imm 'O" visa, possibly multi entry, you can get one in Savannkhet Laos with the same documents as above.

Combined with the extension that allows almost 17 months in country, each entry up to 150 days.

BTW the drop of the AUD was pre-announced and driven by the central bank, Australia needed a weaker dollar. Some people have made a fortune on that

Not really about the op, but aud long term value will be driven down. Au govt really want it at around 0.75 USD.

Maybe even lower. Get your aud into baht now. Long term it will continue down. Baht should not fall markedly to USD.

Thanks for the info guys,

So should I apply for the extension just before my visa expires I guess.

Last point is if I get the 60 day extension and I put cash in my thai bank now so its there for 2 months I should be able to apply for my marriage visa here in Thailand yes?

Hey Paz why would I need another o-visa? If I get a extension does that mean I can't go for the marriage visa while on my extension?

Thanks

get the extension in the last few weeks of your permitted to stay stamp expiring, the 60 days will start on its expiry. not sure abut the extension on the 60 day extension.

Think re value of AU dollar is covered. You can even Google to back up my post. Just move money here for your non imn o based on marriage. Another option to consider.... If your, rather when ... Go to AU consulate here in bkk and do stat dec that your income satisfies requirements. Be aware that io may also want some supporting docs. AU embassy will not as its a stat dec.

Think its about 600 baht. Then use your already transfered funds to live off. Mind you doesn't really help as future transfers will be to whatever rate.

Check long term projections online. Not good for AU folk with income steams. Factor in 15 to 20% drop.

Beers in sien reap 50 cents a handle. HCMC Saigon green 500ml ..10000 dong= 50 cents aud.

Maybe I move.

[/quit]In Thailand you would apply for an extension, not a visa

Hey Paz why would I need another o-visa?

In case you don't want or can't deal with the paperwork and requisites for an one year extension.

You can do the 60 day extension during the last 30 days of your current 90 day permit to stay you got on entry not your visas expiration date 90 days from when it was issued.

You can then do the one year extension of stay during the last 30 days of the permit to stay the extension gives you. You need to be sure you have put the money in the bank 60 days before that permit to stay date ends.
