It's great that China are heading towards a moon landing, who'd have thought it that China may yet be the second country to put a man on the moon?

I'm struck by the ingenuity and fearlessness of the Apollo astronauts all those years ago. It's just mind-boggling what America accomplished in the 60's.

Don't think they're landing just yet.

Indeed, though keep in mind they had massive help from the euros, specifically Braun (without whom it couldn't be done), and ploughed billions and billions into it. But, yes, fantastic nonetheless.

It'll be quite a while yet before they try to send up people who might leave footprints so the point should be well taken by anyone paying attention. A successful CCP moon journey will be acknowledged and praise given but it will be oh-hum catch up for the CCP lunar machine. It is wise not to egg on the dictators in Beijing in their pursuits.

And a space machine it is, full of anonymous bureaucrats and taikonauts, absent any personality or flesh and blood frontiersmen to boldly go where the United States has gone before, many times.

Dr. von Braun of course got little publicity during the development of ICBMs against the Soviet Union during the Cold War but got plenty of public exposure during the civilian Apollo space program and its 32-storey Saturn V rocket. NASA recently approved the new SLS rocket 40 feet higher for Mars and asteroid travel as the new Mars Mission creeps steadily along..

During Apollo the U.S. was more than 80% Euros in ancestry and Braun got plenty of help from the thousands of multi-generation American engineers in the Apollo Program.

Almost forgot, first test flight of the new SLS will be 2018. Buys yer ticket now while ya can.

If this was a planned US mission to somewhere and the comments being made where about the US or American's the good ole boys would be on here calling everyone anti-american, funny thing is the it appears the ones making the most borderline racist comments are USer's - who are obviously anti Chinese and racists to boot

One thing China desperately needs is space. It's either Moon or Siberia.

Hostile factors are harsh Moon environment or Russian Siberian Population. Not sure about the last.

I didn't know that there were possible oil/gas reserves, under the lunar surface, but feel sure that we'll shortly be hearing how the PRC has historically owned them, throughout recorded history.

And the USSR will be sending a stealth-submarine, recently returned from manouvers in the Baltic, to stake their own claim.
