SAMUT PRAKAN – Police say a taxi driver has confessed to murdering the 79-year-old Japanese teacher whose remains were found in a canal this week, as well as the Japanese man his girlfriend was previously living with in 2003.

Somchai Kaewbangyang told police he smothered 79-year-old Yoshinori Shimato to death with a pillow and then dismembered his body into pieces, says Pol.Gen.Somsakchai Armonsongcharen. Yoshinori’s remains were found in a canal in Samut Prakan on Tuesday.

Somchai was first linked to the murder through his partner, Pornchanok Chaiyapa, who was initially arrested for allegedly using the Yoshinori’s ATM card to steal money from his bank account after his death. She was later named a suspect in the murder case, along with her partner Somchai.

Isn't capitalism based on greed, though ? OK I know it has other names, presentable ones, but isn't greed the fuel that actually runs the whole system ?

Now, if a society keeps telling people that it's OK to be greedy, why should we be surprised that this notion occasionnaly breeds monsters, namely the ones who are unable to draw the line where it should be drawn ?

Lines are where we draw them, and they move from one era to another, one place to another. Let's not forget that Hitler and his fans were sincerely convinced that they were doing a great service to humanity by attempting to eradicate the Jews. They did not see themselves as evil, they could be good fathers and husbands at the same time, and that's what's so frightening about the whole thing.

This monster couple obvioulsy found a way to compartmentalize, one hour they kill and butcher an old guy, the next they become nice people having a drink with heir friends at the local beer garden.

(By the way, about my remark on capitalism, before anyone tells me that communism is worse, save your fingertips my friends because my answer to that is yes, I know.)

Suspect 'confesses' to Shimato murder

BANGKOK: A key suspect charged in connection with the murder of Japanese teacher Yoshinori Shimato has confessed to killing the victim before chopping up the body and throwing the pieces into a canal, a senior police officer has said.

Police Region 1 acting commissioner Amnuay Nimmano said Somchai Kaewbangyang confessed to the murder during questioning.

Pol Maj Gen Amnuay said Mr Somchai earlier denied killing the man but admitted he dismembered the body to cover up the death after he found him at the house of Pornchanok Chaiyapa, his girlfriend, another suspect in the murder.

He said Ms Pornchanok also admitted she witnessed the killing and gave some useful information, but declined to give further details.

A source close to the investigation said Mr Somchai admitted to smothering the man to death with a pillow.

The confession comes as police yesterday (October 24) found knives and other items believed to be connected to the murder at the home of the suspects' daughter.

Pol Maj Gen Amnuay said police expect to wrap up the investigation in 15 days.

Pol Col Somsakchai Amornsongcharoen, chief of Bang Sao Thong police station, said Mr Somchai told investigators about the murder weapons during questioning on Thursday (October 23) night.

He said police obtained a warrant from Samut Prakan provincial court to conduct a search at the flat in Samut Prakan's Bang Phli district. Officers found the knives allegedly used to chop up the victim and the clothes Mr Somchai wore on that day.

The flat belongs to Mr Somchai's 24-year-old daughter born to Ms Pornchanok. Forensic tests would be carried out to see if the knives were used in the crime.

The pair were arrested in Ang Thong on Sunday (October 19) on suspicion of being linked to Shimato's disappearance. The 79-year-old teacher was last seen on September 21. His son, Tetsuo Shimato, flew from Japan and lodged a missing persons complaint with Huai Khwang police on October 14.

Police found several suspicious withdrawals from the missing man's bank account, with a total of more than B700,000 taken out in 14 transactions. Ms Pornchanok was charged with theft.

There is a pattern to the murder. Apparently this is at least the second time the Black Widow has done this. The daughter of Phornchanok's previous husband, Katsutoshi Tanaka, has asked that her father's case be reopened.

I think a good way to add to the punishment is to post photos and family history of the perps everywhere. Bill boards, etc. Really make them and their kin lose face. Then put them in a Japanese jail.

Didn't we see these quotations recently at another murder investigation or was that my imagination. Maybe the police were having another bad day and nobody could think of anything else/better to say.
