yes id say cut the losses and sell it as animal feed. But I am sure some people who sell animal feed wont like this.

Indeed this sad news when more people are dying form hunger. Most states are committing crime for humanity in the name of economics. Should have been donated to the West African countries where there is Ebola outbreak that requires aid.

Grains are the best gift from God, can be stored for years if no moisture and if no humidity especially rice, unfortunately Thailand is humid country, they need different techniques to store for long term, but it is expensive. In case if the grain color is changed, can be washed properly and dried in the sun and it can still be consumed if properly cooked. It is better than people dying with out food because of war and poverty. Foundations and donor organizations(Buffet/Gates/Zukersberg ???) should consider buying for low price and distribute to the people who cannot afford to buy it.

Animal feed or ethanol feedstock, but even that requires transport. Probably best to just bury, burn or otherwise dispose of it. Take the loss and move on.

The storage of rice only happened because of the rice pledging scheme devised by the great thinker (Thaksin thinks.....)

The spoilage of the rice could never have happened without the pledging scheme which bought the rice and stored it in unsuitable conditions.

The Opposition first brought the condition of the stored rice to the attention of the Govt in the first no confidence debate when they produced and opened a sack of spoiled rice from one of the warehouses in parliament, for their trouble they were laughed at and threatened with a charge of theft.

They then took the evidence they had collected to the NACC which started an investigation which has now, over 2 years later, culminated in the comprehensive inspection of all the stored rice, the conclusion of that investigation is this topic and the charges against Yingluck and her commerce ministers.

The rice that has been inspected has accumulated over the term of the PT Govt as it was bought from successive harvests and as the available storage was filled more had to be found, some may remember Don Muang Airport at one time being looked at as a storage facility, this resulted in less suitable storage being used for successive crops.

This poor storage is the result of even the newer crops going bad quicker than they should.

It should be noted that the full result of what is now a comprehensive audit of the scheme is not yet complete and when this comes out the full scale of what is in fact a trillion baht disaster for the country will be known and fingers will be pointed and have no, doubt heads will roll.

If all the warehouses that had these stockpiles? We're placed under lock and key, by the Junta, shouldn't they shoulder a portion of the blame ?

When the investigations started months ago why were they not selling it off at lower price just to reduce the stockpile and avoiding further degradation and contamination ?

Were they stupid enoug to place this years crops inside the same warehouses?

How on earth can Thailand think they can retain number 1 exporter on the world, when they can't shift what they have, ands it's pretty clear the storage facilities are not good enough either?

Would you want to buy rice at a premium rate from Thailand, given this latest revelation ??

Action is needed now otherwise the new crops are going to head the same way, as for farmers having their own storage facilities, will he have to purchase more land, and build these at a cost to himself, and to a standard that would meet international health and safety and hygiene standards?

I don't think the PM fully understands the costs of having such storage facilities built for each farmer, then you have added costs of maintaining said rice in their storage too.

There's a reason why farmers get rid of their produce quickly , it's partly to reduce the chance of it getting spoiled and contaminated on his own location.

Sounds like an opportunity for another scam/scheme as in building up to spec warehouses all over the rice producing regions. !!

Your off mark here, the warehouses are just not up to spec. The junta can't change that. They can't create better storage. New storage won't be build as this is a temporary problem the ROI wont be good enough if they build it now.

This problem was caused by JL. You cant expect the junta to build new warehouses and such. They are just not available.
