PM Prayut: Only 10 percent of 18 million tonnes of rice in stockpiles are good

Would it not be wise to sell the 90% as animal feed and build new smaller stockpiles of good quality rice purchased at market price.

yes id say cut the losses and sell it as animal feed. But I am sure some people who sell animal feed wont like this.

Indeed this sad news when more people are dying form hunger. Most states are committing crime for humanity in the name of economics. Should have been donated to the West African countries where there is Ebola outbreak that requires aid.

Already suffering from Ebola and you want to punish them further with Thai rice!!

Grains are the best gift from God, can be stored for years if no moisture and if no humidity especially rice, unfortunately Thailand is humid country, they need different techniques to store for long term, but it is expensive. In case if the grain color is changed, can be washed properly and dried in the sun and it can still be consumed if properly cooked. It is better than people dying with out food because of war and poverty. Foundations and donor organizations(Buffet/Gates/Zukersberg ???) should consider buying for low price and distribute to the people who cannot afford to buy it.

90% gone bad in just four months??

And before anyone get started on YL, this was under the present government!!coffee1.gif

Brilliant post right of the bat.

According to you on July 1 70% of the rice immediately turned yellow. Were you one of Yingluck's speech writers?

General Prayut pointed out at the need of farmers to have their own barn or storage which, he said, to store their crops when the prices are down and to sell them when the prices are right. The rice storages can help stabilize rice prices, he added.

Now there is a method that will give the rice growers control over the quality of the rice. Eliminate the middle man. He can build decent shelters that will not go bad over night such as JOC is claiming happened.

And you can show all of us exactly where you see that he is talking about ONLY the rice from the last 4 months? Or are you just trying to change this story to suit your feelings for YL?

Simply amazing the nonsense some people will believe just because some one was good at shopping and Photo Ops with a secondary degree in world traveling.

Amazing they can investigate something of the complexity of this, but Mr Pannada struggles to identify anything with the microphones.

It's fairly easy to see if rice is bad. No?

As for the microphones, they have been canceled!

The microphones were cancelled after the corruption was unveiled. If you rob a bank and get caught, does just giving back the money erase the crime? In the microphone case, I guess it has.

The rice was cancelled when the corruption was unveiled ???? Did they give back any money, think about glass houses and stones .

But the previous government was "bad" and this government is "good". Your argument to rationalize all the bad things that the current government does is that the previous government also did this. I thought the whole point of the coup was to get back to good governance. Or, was it just a power grab with the same old bad governance?

First few lines true---BAD this PM has yet to prove himself fully, 5 months only. If you were to be foolish enough to try to correct the dung left by the PTP good luck. This topic is about rice and who did/or is doing what about the scandal.

Yingluck did NOTHING---the rest have to pick up the mess.

We have to compare to get better results NOT condemn for the sake of it because you did not like the intervention.

like the rest of the system here ..rotten

That is why we had a coup and a new government trying to change it.Corruption roots run deep and will take time to root them out. some they never will be able to. That is a fact in all nations even the ones who have been honest and working on it for years.

Give the present government time and in a year you will see a Thailand you will not be able to recognize. There will still be corruption but not on the present day scale. There are going to be a lot of unhappy Farong red shirted businessmen.

Can not see any thing productive coming out of this thread. Just the usual corrupt Thaksin corruption lovers defending him. Along with the people such as myself who are holding out hope for a better Thailand. People who understand reality and don't point are finger at the governments lack of ability to change every thing 100% in a minute. People who realize corruption will always be with us but no where near the present day levels.

Some people are naive beyond belief!!coffee1.gif

Most likely a conservative estimate, and no one coming up with any

ideas of what to do with it,animal food ,Ethanol fuel ??,while every

week the storage costs are costing the Govt. millions of baht in

warehouse charges.

At least when it came to light that they were overpriced it WAS canceled .. clocks!

Well. That writes it all down to the floor for a fire sale to CP.

All good for business of course. I would say that this statement must put the mockers on any case against Yingluck. Didn't they say the rice was fine only a few months ago?

They should have been very honest from the start

This was under the present government? Hardly, the present government inherited this entire mess from Yingluck and company. It has taken the present government 4 months to unravel the mess she left behind.

And another at least 12 months to deal with it.

Why was this allowed to happen, given the importance of the fiasco in the first place?

How much of it was rotten prior to July??

If all the warehouses that had these stockpiles? We're placed under lock and key, by the Junta, shouldn't they shoulder a portion of the blame ?

When the investigations started months ago why were they not selling it off at lower price just to reduce the stockpile and avoiding further degradation and contamination ?

Were they stupid enoug to place this years crops inside the same warehouses?

How on earth can Thailand think they can retain number 1 exporter on the world, when they can't shift what they have, ands it's pretty clear the storage facilities are not good enough either?

Would you want to buy rice at a premium rate from Thailand, given this latest revelation ??

Action is needed now otherwise the new crops are going to head the same way, as for farmers having their own storage facilities, will he have to purchase more land, and build these at a cost to himself, and to a standard that would meet international health and safety and hygiene standards?

I don't think the PM fully understands the costs of having such storage facilities built for each farmer, then you have added costs of maintaining said rice in their storage too.

There's a reason why farmers get rid of their produce quickly , it's partly to reduce the chance of it getting spoiled and contaminated on his own location.

Sounds like an opportunity for another scam/scheme as in building up to spec warehouses all over the rice producing regions. !!

"Regarding some 100,000 tonnes of rice which have mysteriously gone missing from the book,

cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

the prime minister...would investigate the case to ascertain how they had gone missing,

blink.png

where was the mistake and who would be held accountable."

In 3 or 4 crops of 25mn tonnes, the mice have eaten 100k tonnes don't worry. Its completely insignificant.

I hope this is irony from you! Cause even a 70 IQ realises it has taken a few years for that rice to go bad, and guess who was 'in charge', yes, the photo op girl, the main reason probably being the guys made 'responsible'(?!) for storing (paid with taxpayers' money to do so) never heard of the 'first in, first out' principle, and always got the last harvest out first (because they had it piled up in front of the older one maybe too?), but will they be held accountable? Fat chance... But 'fashion girl' should be, 'the buck stops at the top', even when we know the real boss was Mr Thaksinomics, she was PM!

According to JOC, you cannot blame her she is not in charge now.

Your off mark here, the warehouses are just not up to spec. The junta can't change that. They can't create better storage. New storage won't be build as this is a temporary problem the ROI wont be good enough if they build it now.

This problem was caused by JL. You cant expect the junta to build new warehouses and such. They are just not available.

Real amazing how farang redskirts like you like to deflect the topic at hand. The massive loss denied by YL is here its confirmed and you bring up some microphones (guy should be punished too for sure but it is not this topic and kind pales in comparison)

Interesting to see, how you label anyone disagreeing with you on any topic as redshirts!!

It is not all red or yellow, you as Dutch should know that!! (hint orange)!!whistling.gif

You can call me yellow if you like... but you are on purpose distorting facts for propaganda and an other tries to deflect the whole topic by comparing it to something relatively minor (financial impact wise) to this. (the guy should be punished too.. no tolerance here for corruption)

About the microphones' scam: has anyone ever read anywhere those had been bugetted and ordered after May 22nd, 2014, and by officials which had been put in charge after that date? Hmm? It seems this next dirty story had till now not been 'politicised', but when the comments of the 'red brigadists' here might hit the Thai press, it could become a boomerang, hitting back on officials with a PTP/UDD signature as being responsible for the mess, so, hush, 'scarlet pimps', hush...!

Real amazing, The topic is RICE, not your name calling "redskirts" and your contempt for any who support YL or redshirts, and yeah the mic's (corruption) debacle is well swept under the rug and will stay there, no one held responsible for that, so why are you not showing the same contempt? BIAS maybe???

I wonder how will the government sell this low quality rice without affecting the rice prices due to the impending harvest next month?

So how will it be stored, as many farmers do not have storage, and the accountability of rice purchases, condition, and payments to farmers? and so-on?

Rice issues in the next six months, things will really either heat up for the new guy's in power, or just play out.

Would be an elegant touch tough for the UDD to call its female rattlers 'red skirts' to differenciate these from its 'red shirts' stormtroopers, isn't it? wink.png

Wow and the have regained the title of number rice exporter in the world, that is amazing. The rest of the World's producers must really be sub standard.
