I am from the United State and 25 years old and got in Thailand without visa (got 30 days stay at Chiang Mai Airport) in October and it will expire soon on the 8 of November.

I married my wife since 2011 in the US and we have married license, now she moved back to Thailand( my wife is Thai) I wonder how i can extend my visa here??

at the Immigration, they said I can extend my visa for 30 days, how does this work?

and at the boreder (Mae Sai, Chiang Rai) it used to be 15 days each time.. but heard my friend said it is 30days now and some said only 7 days so i dont which one?

if we want to get spouse visa for me, where can I get it and what we need to prepare for this?

Ps. i was visit Thailand to see my wife family year and a half before and has to go back for Family Emergency in the US.

we have our own business here in Chiang Mai, but it just started for a year for I dont think our income would meet what they request here for visa.

please help me, thank you very much

You can get a 60 day extension of your 30 day visa exempt entry to visit you wife. You wife will need to go with you. You will need your US marriage certificate, copies of your wife's house book and ID card.

In order to get a one year extension of stay you would need to register your marriage at an Amphoe.

You will need to do a self certification of your marriage certificate at the US consulate in CM by doing an affidavit. Then have it and your marriage certificate translated to Thai and have the translation certified by the Ministry of Foreign affairs. The translation service can get the certification done at the MFA for you. Then you would go to an Amphoe to register you marriage. They will issue a Kor Ror 22 marriage registry that you will would need at immigration. They will also update your wife's house book and give her the choice to have your name on her ID.

In order to get a one year extension of stay you would need 400k baht in a Thai bank for 60 days in your name only or proof of 40k baht income.

You would you need to get a single entry non-o visa that would give you a 90 entry before applying for the extension. You can get it any nearby embassy or consulate.

You can also get a multiple entry non-o visa that wold give you unlimited 90 day entries for a year in Savannakhet Laos.

MFA has an office in Chiang Mai, at thethe provincial government complex. (ground floor, next to the passport office is the legalization section).

thank you very much for your answer

how much it costs for 60 days visit wife at Chiang Mai immigration?

and it will be good for how long? 3 months 6 months or a year? and how much it cost in Laos?

Posted

The 60 day extension from immigration costs 1,900 baht.

The Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa from Laos costs 5,000 Baht and gives you a stay of almost 15 months.

You will have to leave Thailand every 90 days though.

As for the 40,000 Baht a month, it has to be your salary, not your Wife's and not joint.

All extensions of stay cost 1900 baht.

The multiple entry non-o visa would give you unlimited 90 day entries for a year. The fee is 5000 baht.

You can also get 60 days extensions at immigration for Bt 1,900. That means leaving every 150 days.

When doing border hops there is no time set for when one has to re-enter.

The marriage registration is only needed for a extension of stay at immigration.

A multiple entry visa gives unlimited 90 day entries for a year. By doing an entry just before the visa expires you can get almost 15 months of total stay.

Other than the visa application form with 2 photos attached, your passport and a copy the the photo page nothing more is needed than what what a I wrote before.

thank you for your answer

any recommends about going to Laos ..

I have no idea if i can take a bus to go there or how to get there from Chiang Mai.??? (in limited budget)

Posted

I am not sure there are any direct buses from Chiang Mai to Mukdahan. You probably would have changes buses in Udon Thani or Khon Kaen.

my plan is to be in Laos on the 21st Dec and back on the 24th Dec.. i think i will go get Visa on the 22nd and it should be able to pick up on the 23nd, right? do i need more time for that? 21st to 24th should be enough time? ps. on 24th, my flight will be at 7.40 am (very early in the morning).. i just want to make sure since this is my first time to be in Laos for Visa.. as i know we dont need Thai married license ( we have one from the US) and visa fee (with multi-entry) 5000 baht ..we should be ok, right?

Posted

Savannakhet does the visa on the same day you apply. Apply by 11 am and get your passport back at 3:30 pm.

Where are you flying to?

Your US marriage certificate will be accepted. Plus the signed copies of your wife's house book and ID card.

You will need 1500 baht or $35 for the Lao visa on arrival.

It is 5000 baht for a multiple entry non-o visa.

Posted

we will fly with Nokair since they have a good deal from bkk to mukdahan and since this is the first time, my wife has to be there too?? and she is Thai, how much for Lao visa for her?

Posted

You wife does not have to be with you to get the visa.

If she has a passport she gets a free visa exempt entry. If no passport she would pay 30 to 50 baht for a 3 day border pass.

Posted

Is it for sure that they will give me a visa in Laos without financial proof ? Because it is cost a lot to go there and i am very worried that it will be denied there. Sorry for keep asking again and again and thank you very much for your kindness help

Posted

And could you please upload the form i need again because the one you put early, i cannot download no more .. Or could you send me that form to my email <email address removed> thank you very much

File sent check your inbox.

Don't worry about the financial proof. If they changed the rules there would a topic about it on this forum.

So can those of us with Thai wives really have as many 60-day extensions as we like over the 10-year lifetime of our passports, provided that none of them are consecutive?

I would guess you could. But who knows what the rules might be during those 10 years.
