Returning from Laos, second entry of tourist visa, stamped 30 days?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just returned from Laos, assumed the second entry of my double entry tourist visa would have been used but instead it looks like I've been stamped for 30 days.

Is this a visa exempt stamp?

Any problems with this happening?

I'm guessing in 28 days I go out/in to activate the visa entry that should have been activated this time right?

Also, the enter before date on the visa is 28th Oct, today is 30th Oct, but I'm guessing (and hoping) that only applies to activating the visa with the first entry which I did months back?

Bit confused right now, hoping someone can clear this up a bit.

Cheers.

As the date indicate, your visa had to be used before Oct 28th, for both entries.

Consequently it has expired and you have be allowed 30 days visa exempt.

Ahhhhhh, damn. Ok, cheers.

You can get a 30 day extension of your 30 day visa exempt entry at immigration. The fee will 1900 baht.

Thanks, my only worry is being refused a tourist visa/ed visa now while being on visa exempt. Is this likely?

This was my first tourist visa, although I had about 3 exempts in the past before this.

There is no reason why you should be refused visa in the future.

You will have no problem getting another visa. They don't look for or count visa exempt entries.

Ah great, thanks guys.

One last question, am I right in thinking you need a tourist visa to apply for an ed visa? This was my plan but obviously now I'm on exempt, so I'm guessing I need to apply for a tourist visa again then the ed visa?

When you apply for a visa, you are outside Thailand, hence you're not on any Thai visa.

In other words you can apply with any previous travel history whatsoever.

You don't need a tourist visa to apply for a ED visa. You will be out of the country when you apply for it at an embassy or consulate.
