Initial DNA test clears Koh Tao village headman's son of murder

What seems odd here is that the Police themselves are conducting these DNA tests instead of an independent lab...is this the usual practice in other countries. Seems to be open to abuse if the police can say, yes it matched or didn't? As I remember it, there were two kinds of sperm on one of the victims. Sperm is pretty good as a sample for DNS testing...this shouldn't be this difficult....given the public concern, why not put DNA testing out to an independent lab with an independent witness.

14 pages and you still don't know it is also being done by independant labs!!!Your post is irrevalent.

clap2.gif Independent labs..........please get a little reaility here. The Police Hospital, followed by 3 other hand picked hospitals. This is far from an independent test. Would you like to see the official procedure for an independent DNA test? Happy to provide you with a dozen links

I completely agree with everything you said. I lived in Thailand for 9 years. And it got to the point where, I was not only gaining a dislike for the people there, but a hatred. They want your money, every one of them and couldnt care less if you dropped dead in the street.

Am I wrong for saying this? well Im afraid it works both ways, because they hate us, all of them.

The Police have made a complete mockery of this, why did it take 5 days for the DNA results of the suspects, yet 24 hours for this guy. The whole thing stinks to high heaven.

I left there 8 Months ago, and now stay in The Philippines, at least people there understand my point of view, with their knowledge of the English language, I just wish I had pissed off years ago.

So it's Thailand's fault you didn't learn Thai in 9 years, your ignorance and arrogance is typical.Watch yourself in the PI.

i think the finding was as expected by 99-99999%

Its really such a pity this affair is done with such shady ways from day one-

Few people are interested in this foreseen outcome -

A nation where if your connected to ""high Places"" whispering boo is enough.

This Kid looked eerily similar to the CCTV footage we saw on the night of the crime.

We are told the boys father is connected to a certain person. (high up)

So we initially witnessed NO DNA tests and other bypasses of diligent detective work as far as this suspect is concerned.

Few of us expected a Positive finding today.

Now the Thais will expect us to watch their Kangaroo court with a degree of confidence.

As i said only the Junta fan club will be cheering as this Travesty of justice continues .

That has to set a new world record for DNA analysis. Credible? If the RTP really want to clear up public skepticism then let the British police do their own independent tests - the results will certainly not be tainted in any way as the British police are impartial.

I have a problem with the Chief of Police being required to attend a routine DNA test of a 22 year old son of someone not very important!

Can you imagine this in a developed country, where being chief of police means being at the top and dealing with non mundane things!

And who paid for these tests I wonder? They are not cheap. I reckon this is the first Thai who valued a test more than an iphone lol

forget the CCTV picures, they are easy to alter

forget the DNA,this evidence is totally controlled by the corrupt people

what this forum and CSI should be demanding is THE PHONE RECORDS

is it possible to corrupt these?...they will show exactly where he was and who he was speaking to at crucial times

on the evening in question

Why couldnt Thai authorities do a DNA test fully in 24 hours? Was it not reported recently that they had a cure for Ebola? The first in the world???? See they can do things faster here than any where else in the world. smile.png

Wrong,it wasn't reported they had found a cure for ebola.

Think I read they had a "cure for ebola"... which I thought was odd, as I think they mean they have isolated the antigen... or something like that...coffee1.gif

Son of Koh Tao headman 'cleared by DNA test'

Khanathit Srihirundaj

The Nation

...in front of the media - so as to boost public confidence in the police handling of the case. They were trying to clear public scepticism about their handling of the case

This is the problem with Police; they care more about face than finding the truth.

I don't think we will ever truthfully know who killed the two Brits. The 2 burmese will most definitely walk anyway with a good lawyer. Their lawyer should be able to totally discredit the 'DNA process', as well as other questionable pieces of evidence.

It is debatable whether it was still relevant to test the headman's son's DNA. The 'only' way that any DNA test will be credible is if the 'original' samples taken from the body were not contaminated, substituted or planted and the police can conclusively prove this and the continuity of the evidence. It doesn't matter how many people they test if the original DNA are suspect.

Seminal DNA will not prove murder. The lawyer could suggest consensual sex prior to the murder???????.

There are so many negatives in this investigation it is a Defense Lawyers dream.

Guilty or not. Any good lawyer will get these two off and that will be the biggest miscarriage of justice of all time if they did it, compliments of the BIB.

Agreed, but these two Brits are dead and the way this has been handled by the Thai becomes more and more the focus. They have gone way to far en have done this many times before, this will backfire and explode in their faces.

I have no idea where you lived or with whom you associated but it sure as hell wasn't any of the Thais that I know and love. Your description of the Thais that came into your life can only reflect upon your own character. What a very sad and unfortunate fellow you must be to have a "hatred" in your heart.

The analysis requires the test sample to be compared against the reference sample, you can use as many independent labs as you want, it proves nothing, if the providence of the reference sample is not know, the result is invalid,

Who procured and provided the reference samples to the labs ?....yes you guessed it the RTP...the key here is not just independent analysis but proof that the reference samples 1. are from the victims 2. they have haven't been "contaminated" along the way 3. they have been collected in accordance with "accepted" procedures.

if Items 1,2,3 cant be conclusively established, then the tests conducted are invalid

The British police can only do their own independent tests, if they are sure they have the correct DNA found on the victim.

So many theories, not a tiny bit of proof one way or the other - my theory is he didn't have sex with her, but he certainly could have had his gang take care of it Money buys loyalty - he was dissed by the girl, the hubbie disrespected him and they took care of it for the boss. Do you know how easy it is to manipulate a security video date on an image, takes seconds, not minutes............Ho hum this will be the last you hear from me on this subject, I am moving on.coffee1.gifcoffee1.gif

The police have arrested a suspect in the murder of two British tourists in Koh Tao and are still hunting for a second suspect who has escaped into Bangkok.

Eighth Region Police Command commissioner Pol Lt-Gen Panya Mamen identified the first suspect as Mon.

He is the brother of a village headman in Koh Tao.

He was arrested after evidence which police collected were examined and proved he was involved, he said.

He also said another suspect is also a son of that village headman. But he has already to Bangkok.

He said both suspects were captured by CCTV cameras and the police have gathered enough evidence to implicate them in the murders.

What ever came of this? Now either they were captured on CCTV or not? If not, then who was captured? HE did say both suspects......

This is pure speculation but I have a theory on why the son of the Village Headman did not give a DNA sample until a month later........

During those initial DNA tests they also tested for drug use. Maybe he was worried that would show up? No worries now a month later.....

Police freed both Montriwat and his brother Woraphan after blood and urine test did not match DNA collected from the scene, and no drug addiction was found.

I did learn enough Thai to get by, but English is the number one language in the world. But except for the bar girls who need it to get at your bak balance, they are lazy and refuse. They are going to wake up when the Asien comes into force next year, because all the Filipinos, Malaysians and even Burmese are going to take all the jobs off them, leaving them to build roads and condos for 400 baht a day. What Thailand needs is a war, it has never been occupied, and knows little about western standards. Most of them know little about Thai standards, If you happy stay where you are, I wasnt and got out. The Philippines is the same, keep your nose clean and there is nothing to fear. I got Mugged in the centre of Madrid hahaha

Living in Thailand, the thing that worries me the most about this country is the younger generation. The older generation I find ok, most good, some bad as with any nationality. I find the older one's very tolerant to foreigners.

When it comes to the young....In my opinion there is a major problem. I come into contact with students near a large University, I find the attitude of the majority to be obnoxious going on hatred.

Again as in the the majority of the world the young generation turning it's back on religion, in Thailand that is a danger, for the religious beleifs kept people in check, especially in the family unit. With basically no enforcement of law you have a serious and growing problem, that must be addressed.

They couldn't take the risk of bringing someone in with actual knowledge of DNA testing!!coffee1.gif
