Manila embassy requirements

Featured Replies

Just back from the Philippines with my 2 entry TR visa

Documents I was asked to show,

Passport valid, completed form with 2 recent pictures within last 6 months,

2 air tickets not any ground departures accepted.

bank statement and card.

proof of address in Thailand where you stay and name of owner,

how long are you staying, your onward ticket cannot be more than 60 days from the application date.

last requirment , the address of where you are staying in Manila with tel number for them to contact you.

All this is wanted for them to grant a visa, open 09-30am to 11-30am applications, collections 15-00 to 17-00 pm,

2 working days no express application available,

It's laughable that they want all this, another embassy to add to the ever growing list of embassies discouraging tourists from coming to Thailand.

What's happening here ?

You have to consider what each consulate is "thinking", while I agree that in many cases they are not thinking much or well.

Filipinos are often emigrants and well reputed workers anywhere. The consulate tries to make it difficult for them to enter Thailand where they could easily find a job. Then, rather than discriminating between nationalities, they apply the same policy to everyone.

They don't care about "loosing" the occasional westerner, as long their main goal is achieved - keep a tight control on generally issued visa. Of course that won't be enough to prevent a well determined person from going anyway, but having done at least what it was in their power will ensure the consul will be re-confirmed in his post.
