Local Thai agencies blamed for majority of state data breaches
Local administrative organisations (LAOs) have emerged as the primary culprits behind the most significant personal data leaks among state agencies, according to the Digital Economy and Society Ministry (MDES). The MDES conducted an extensive review of 31,561 state-run units from last November to yesterday, August 27, uncovering a total of 6,086 instances of personal data breaches. Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong revealed that 6,081 units and agencies have been alerted and advised to implement corrective measures. These checks were carried out by the Personal Data Protection Commission’s (PDPC) Eagle Eye Centre, which focuses on the surveillance of personal data misuse and violations. Prasert highlighted a notable improvement in the frequency of data leakages at state-run units. The rate plummeted from 31% per month last November to just 1.6% by the end of July. The LAOs were identified as the worst offenders, responsible for 2,850 out of the 6,086 cases. Moreover, there were 139 instances where officials from state-run units illicitly sold citizens’ personal data during the review period. The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau has actively pursued these breaches, leading to the arrest of 11 suspects linked to data theft charges. The DES minister stated that the ministry has instructed the PDPC to raise public awareness regarding the Personal Data Protection (PDPA) Act and to persist in monitoring further data leaks by state agencies. “These agencies must earn the public’s trust in their ability to safeguard personal information by adopting adequate legal measures.” Prasert acknowledged that while there has been a general decline in personal data leaks, they remain prevalent within state agencies responsible for public services. “The ministry has committed to a proactive stance against personal data abuse across both private and state sectors.” Prasert warned that state agencies permitting such data leakages or abuse could face legal repercussions and fines under the PDPA law, reported Bangkok Post. Yvette Cooper Vows Unprecedented Crackdown on Illegal Migration
You should remember the point was about a shortage of skills, not about all skills. It is government classification, not mine, maybe I was a bit brief in just referring to apprenticeships which had one of the greatest impacts. If you look at the Skilled Worker Visa categories, not that many of them require a formal university education. More to do with vocational achievements. -

Lao borders (some at least) now requiring overnight stay?
You’re missing the point. If it were Laos preventing people from exiting or leaving the country, that could be a violation of international law. I wasn’t referring to Thai immigration. Additionally, I’ve never heard of the borders you mentioned. From what I’ve read online, they’ve primarily been used by tourists and locals for quick in-and-out visits. You seem more experienced with border runs than I am, which suggests you might be the one relying on visa-free stamps to stay in Thailand. As for heavy drinking and girls, it sounds like you’re projecting your own experiences. People have been working online since the early 2000s… Welcome to the real world. -

Trump Just Pulled Out Of The Debate
Kamala Harris made headlines last week when she joked in a radio interview that of course she smoked marijuana in her younger years: “Half my family’s from Jamaica. Are you kidding me?” But the crack didn’t go over well with at least one Jamaican: Donald J. Harris, her father. “My dear departed grandmothers (whose extraordinary legacy I described in a recent essay on this website), as well as my deceased parents, must be turning in their grave right now to see their family’s name, reputation and proud Jamaican identity being connected, in any way, jokingly or not with the fraudulent stereotype of a pot-smoking joy seeker and in the pursuit of identity politics,” he wrote. “Speaking for myself and my immediate Jamaican family, we wish to categorically dissociate ourselves from this travesty,” he added. Kamala Harris’ campaign had no comment. https://www.politico.com/story/2019/02/20/kamala-harris-father-pot-1176805 It should be noted that Donald J Harris was not a deadbeat father but took his duties as a father very seriously, until his ex wife prevented him from doing so. -

Outrage in Laos as wealthy 17 year old driver kills Thai man
Lao netizens stepped forward to seek justice for a Thai man who was killed in a car crash caused by a 17 year old driver from a powerful, wealthy family in the country. A Laotian man named Joseph Akaravong shared pictures of the damaged white Ferrari on Facebook and a photo of the dead Thai man, identified only as Fu, yesterday, August 27. In the caption, Joseph shared some details of the incident. “This is the car involved in the fatal accident. The deceased is a Thai national who was staying in Laos. The driver is a 17 year old Laotian teenager named Suapone Bouphasavanh. His family is trying to avoid legal punishment by saying he is just a minor.” Details of how the accident occurred were not revealed in the post. The story drew attention from both Lao and Thai netizens. Some Laotians feared that the family of the teenage driver would use their wealth to close the case. Netizens voiced their opinions in the comment section. “When the president was 17 years old, he didn’t even own a motorcycle, yet this 17 year old has a Ferrari. Does his family sell drugs?” “The parents must take responsibility for allowing their child under the age of 18 to drive.” “This is not fair for Fu. He did not deserve this.” “Saying he hasn’t reached the legal age is a nonsense excuse but it works. Why do you say nothing about the legal age when buying the car and driving it? This isn’t about legal violations; it’s about the life of one person.” Thai people expressed their appreciation for the support from the Lao people in the comments. Some stated that they hoped Lao laws could not be bought with money, unlike in Thailand. Others mentioned a recent accident where a Laotian driver ignored a red light and crashed into a car carrying a Thai family, resulting in the deaths of a pregnant Thai woman and her unborn baby. They believed that the victims had not yet received justice, as there had been no follow-up information on the legal punishment or compensation.
