Have a work permit (renew it 26.9.14)

Age 30

I got my first work permit few years ago and also had a Non B before. I did border bounce every 3 months and so on.. I changed my job last year, got a new work permit and same non B visa. Now I haven't done border bounce anymore, only nathon every 3 months. My visa expire 2.10.2014 so I took my passport to my accounting 20.9.2014 and still haven't get my passport back!? Is this normal 45 days already? They charged me 17,000thb (in statement it says visa extension non B 1 year) I don't wanna worry but I'm leaving soon and this months is my only change to have a holiday. I went Morning star today and asked reason why it's take so long. I got some explanations about a new rules? I have not heard anyone else say anything about new rules when you do visa renew or extension. I already renew my workpermit 26.9 and got it back.

is there anybody who knows something about this "new rules & why it's taking so long" or my guess is that they have not done anything on time..

If youve used the accountants before personally I wouldn't be overly concerned but maybe thats just me.

Wouldnt wanna wait much longer though

17k seems about right if it also included the costs of renewing your wp.

Once they submitted the paperwork and got a under consideration stamp for the renewal they should of given your passport back to you. They have no right to hold your passport.

Perhaps it is just taking longer for the approval to be done.

OP is dealing with an "accountant", not immigration. He doesn't really know where his passport is now.

On top of that he has been charged nice hefty sum of Bt 17,000 for something that costs 1,900, and is being lied about new rules that don't exist.

my boss has used them for many years but this is first time we have some problems with them

that 17k didn't include Wp.Unfortunately. Total cost check file. Really like to know how much they over charged me..

Immigration does not keep the passport when an application is under consideration ever. It certainly is not in Hat Yai.

As ubonjoe mentioned, immigration returns all passports immediately. When the authorization must come from an higher office, you are given a temporary extension stamp indicating that.

As far as the cost, consider that extension of stay is bt 1,900, copies and pictures maybe Bt 100, time spent at immigration perhaps 1 hour and two visits.

You need a lot of more paperwork for that.

Extension of Thai Business Visa

The Thai "B" or Business Visa can be extended to a one year visa in country as follows.

The extension of the visa is normally based on employment and as such there are certain regulations governing the company who is employing you.

These are the regulations for the extension of the "B" Business Visa:

1. The business must be registered in Thailand.

2. The company must be capitalized to at least Baht 2 Million while operating fund must be at least Baht 1 Million.

3. The company must have a ration of at least 4 : 1 - Four Thais for every foreigner.

4. You must earn at least in accordance with the level specified for each nationality by the Labour Department.

Duration of the Extension

- One year at a time.

Documents required for the extension:

1. Application form (T.M. 7 )

2. Passport or document used in lien of passport and its copies .

3. The applicants 4 x 6 cm. photograph .

4. Extension fee Baht 1,900.-

5. The company letters certifying as follows ;

- Nature of business

- Reason or necessity in employing the applicant his / her position, salary and education background.

- Number of Thai and foreign employees.

6. Copies of work permit or receipt of work permit application.

7. Company's annual balance sheets.

8. The juristic persons Annual Income Tax Declaration Form (Form No.50) of the latest year and its receipt of payment.

9. Thai employees Monthly Income Tax Declaration Form (Form No.1 ) of the latest month and its receipt of payment.

10. The applicants Annual Income Tax Declaration Form (Form No.91) of the latest year and its receipt of payment.

11. The official letter that certify the registration of such juristic person.

12. Business Registration or Business License.

13. Value Added Tax Registration and list of share holders.

14. A map that indicate location of the Company.

15. For those who operate export business, the documentary evidence clarifying its export activities is needed.

16. For those who operate tourism business, the documentary evidence clarifying its total number of tourist that brought in by the company is needed.

For 11 years without exception immigration have kept my passport and wp whilst under consideration.

Each year my wp has been returned before my passport.

I guess I could ask for it back if I was that concerned but have never had concern too.

When I did my visa extension (every 3 months) I have not paid anything.Took about 1 hour in Nathon immigration office. Before when I had my old work permit and I did border bounce I paid normal rates. Also my old account lady just gave my all papers and then I went to penang or kota baru by my self, went to immigration and all sorted. Got new visa in 2 days.

I understand now. You are using a sham company for the only purpose of providing a work permit and an extension of stay. In these case a lot of the cost may need to go toward "facilitating" the construct with the various offices.

You should consider a Thai Elite card, for Bt 500K provides 5 years in country, no hassle and it's perfectly legal.

The 1 year extension will cost 1900 baht, but the multiple reentry permit will cost another 3800 baht for a total of 5700 baht!
